I get the sense that much of the woe and gloom that has plagued our board for the last 2 weeks has evaporated today, after our excellent draw yesterday at the Emirates. Many of our members had us down for a thrashing and some had even mentioned we were totally knackered and the 'R' word was even mentioned. Martin O'Neill is the master tactician and organiser and the main feature of our team yesterday was the magnificent work ethic and team spirit that saw every man give his all. Some like Jimmy didn't have good games but that didn't stop them working hard. Others like Cuellar and especially Cattermole were simply outstanding. Its probably true that as individuals they are not top drawer players but as a unit they are fantastic. With the added excitement today of news of a bid for Adam Johnson being agreed (SSN this morning confirmed it) along with 2 other clubs and the fact Fletcher didn't play for Wolves tells me that the next few days could see our new look squad come together as I always knew it would. Its understandable that nerves had set in for some but after yesterdays result and performance and the new players potentially on their way, surely there must be a new feeling of optimism and relief. I have always had total belief in Martin O'Neill and that has never wavered 1%. He hasn't come here to fail and he has the track record and pedigree to suggest far better. By time we face Swansea (a), I expect we will have a full compliment and see MoN's team take shape for real and Liverpool (h) will be the full Monty show. I look forward now to Saturdays 1st home game with some relish and I'm sure all of us do likewise now.
Great defensive display. You'll get the usual cries of luck but its very hollow. Any team going to Arsenal will probably be 2nd best, even Citeh and Manure. Lets see how many restrict them the way you did. A great start and if built on at home with a bit of attacking flair then who knows.
I'm ok let's get these lads on board I liked what mon had to say our team is not complete yet and he expects new additions
See, now this is what you call constructive debate. I do agree we need much more attacking flair and the big difference between your game and ours was evident. You have Cisse, Ba, Cabaye and Arfa creating and scoring goals in tight games to win the points. Sadly, for all our endeavour and hard work, we created very little in the second half but restricted them to half chances (that Giroud howler apart). If we can add Johnson, Fletcher, Guidetti and a couple of others (LB and central midfielder) and get Sess match fit then our attacking prowess will improve. BTW, that was some goal from Ba.
Never got despondent, no doom & gloom from me but was sh*tting myself yesterday until about 16:45. Was worried about getting a hammering on the 1st day. Tremendous point although admittedly I couldn't watch online yesterday courtesy of being to nervous. A couple of quality additions and its onwards & upwards. Not a magic carpet ride anymore more a soar up into them clouds and the higher echelons of the premier league. Hope so anyway. Confidence is high bring next weeks game on.
MoN doesnt do magic carpet rides kidda, he just does reality. Never had any doubts he would get things right on the pitch and off it.
Well I have to admit I am very pleased with the point, Arsenal took 6 points off us last season, so we have improved already remember Trevor Henry's winner at the SoL. I was worried we would get hammered, but although rode our luck a bit, it was like the end of last season we are hard to score against cos we are well organised. We all know what has to happen next we need some attacking players...could an interesting few weeks as we see who MoN brings in, I hope it is exciting cos' I sometimes take a couple of young lads to the game and they want goalscoring heroes (but then don't we all)!
I hold my hands up I though we would get done yesterday. Especially after some of the pre season games but MON had them up to speed and my apathy is disappearing fast. The news of transfers is adding to excitement but none of these are done deals and will be difficult catches. Fingers crossed though. So we take our point from Arsenal, Reading will be a tough test though. They will be up for it and I expect them to sit back and defend ( I maybe wrong) can we break them down..
They say there's no such thing as a bad point in the Premier League when you play away from home. I unfortunately have to admit that under Bruce you would have buckled after 60-70 mins and ended up 2 or 3 down, even just from watching match of the day I could see an extra 10% of fight in the players compared to the Bruce era, very annoying.
Was an excellent point, from what I have seen from online highlights (couldn't watch the game, which was a bastard), although Arsenal were on top throughout, we always looked pretty solid, and we did have the odd moment. Reading won't be easy, but we have to be looking at 3 points from games like this at home, if we get them, it's an excellent start, if not, yesterday was in vein. Watched the Norwich highlights & Tina had a ****ing stinker, if he'd have played like that, for us, yesterday, we'd have been screwed. Good result, potentially Johnson in this week, if we can get any one of Berba, Guidietti & Fletcher as well, I'll have the buzz for Saturday that I lacked badly for yesterday. Smashing start, in real terms.
