HUGHES: WE DESERVED NOTHING twitter facebook email print PUBLISHED 17:59 18th August 2012 by @OfficialQPR Râs boss delivers frank assessment following opening-day defeat to Swansea We did not deserve anything from this game because of the manner of our performance" Mark Hughes MARK HUGHES labelled QPRâs first performance of the season against Swansea as âunacceptableâ as he watched his side lose 5-0 at Loftus Road. The Swans took the lead through Michu before second-half goals from Michu, Nathan Dyer and Scott Sinclair sealed the win for the South Wales outfit. âThe only positive was the start we made to the game,â Hughes told www.qpr.co.uk. âI thought we were positive and comfortable in the opening period. âThe worst-case scenario when you play Swansea is you concede first, because then they can keep possession, frustrate you and pick you off. Unfortunately thatâs what happened all game from their opening goal onwards. âOur tempo wasnât quick enough so they were able to get people behind the ball. Our passing was poor on the day and they picked us off at will. âTowards the end of the game we were chasing it and committing people forward, and Swansea ere very adept at picking the right pass at the right time. âUnfortunately a lot of our fundamentals which we work on week in, week out went out the window and that is unacceptable. When asked about the nature of the first Swans goal, Hughes said: âRob Green will be disappointed with it but I was more concerned with what was going on in front of him. We have got to be better in that respect. âThere is still a lot of work to do. It was a wake-up call. Maybe everybody was getting a little but excited about whatâs ahead of us but we, as a group, understand thereâs a lot of hard work needed. âToday wasnât the level I expect us to perform at. You can make all the excuses in the world that it was a hot day and the first game of the season, but that doesnât wash with me. We need to perform better. âIn the end we were ragged, made bad decisions, the accuracy of our passing was poor all day and as a consequence we got picked off very easily. âAll credit to Swansea, they played exceptionally well and they took their chances when they came.â At the start of the second-half, with Swansea 1-0 ahead, Junior Hoilett seemed to be brought down in the area but Rangersâ appeals for a penalty were dismissed by referee Lee Probert. âYouâve seen them given,â Hughes added, âand that would have been a boost for us because we were ok in the initial period. âBut in the end we did not deserve anything from this game because of the manner of our performance. âWe have to improve markedly. âWe will pick ourselves up. This might be the making of us.â Related Articles
considering what a brilliant record we had against swansea, and the poor one against you, it can only mean we'll trounce you
How old are you? I may have to use that ignore button soon if this is the height of your intellect. If you want to post I'm wrong then tell me why I'm wrong. I could just call you a name back also but I won't lower myself.
More qualified? I can see, I saw today and I saw last season. He's overrated, except in his own head. He can talk for sure but he'll never make a great Manager.
Rangel's right. Hughes has done surprisingly well to attract some decent players (Cissé, Bosingwa, Park, Green) but he's a ****e manager. What you can 'do about it' is sack the ****.
I'm an angry twat with an opinion on a forum swords are you missing the point, why am I wrong? Thought you had learned to add to the debate swords not just offend people. Why do so many people stuggle with the concept of a forum?
Sorry mate but when I seen your comment about how we're so much better than Swansea even though they finished way above us last season and pissed all over us today, I saw red. I still don't know why you would post such dross to be honest.
how old am i!! You want our manager sacked after one game, ONE and you have the cheek to ask my age?! It's the first game of the season which often throws up freak results and you calling for the managers head? Please, please hit the ignore button bright spark!
I question your age because you reduced yourself to name calling in first instance bright spark. By the way he did quite badly against teams we could have taken points from last season. Maybe with all the dough we've splashed I expect to much, but it was MH who said we wont find ourselves in the same position as last season. Well 1 game in 0 points and a worse goal difference. It's going to be a long season. Nobody would be happier if we just finish a comfortable 15th say, but 0-5 at home to a team that we normally tear to shreds feels like a betrayal. Last post today as nobody seems to be able to convince me that I'm wrong without getting personal.
And did very well against teams everyone thought we would lose against. He kept us up and that's something which can not be denied.
There are heavy defeats that are clearly the fault of the players and others that are clearly the fault of the manager. Today was one of the latter, Hughes is disingenuous if he blames anyone besides himself. Have never rated him.
Personally I don't think we have a Devine right to instant success ala city. We haven't splashed the dough we've got some squad players on free's, payed for a couple of young lads with great potential and payed for Park. Bit of perspective needed!
Mid October? I was actually there today and can say we should have played 2 up front but it was just a bad day at the office. People who make 'rash' comments and didn't even go should should go and support Chelsea. Get over it we lost to the better team on the day.
Of course I don't expect us all to agree. Some like Taarabt, some don't. Some want 4-4-2, some want 4-5-1 etc etc. but to think that getting rid of the manager that has brought in this squad and worked with them over the summer because of one very poor half of football is a good idea is, frankly, moronic in my view.
