What is most disappointing is that nearly all of us to a man knew that one up top is hard to make work. What is even harder is that playing Holt up top on his own is even more of a gamble! We look toothless going forwards and are still conceding soft goals at the back - Not a good recipe! I know it is only 45 minutes but we sort of knew it was coming if that was the system going to be employed!
I don't totally agree with that. Our defence was our weak link last season, the stats bare that out and nothing seems to have changed, and it needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency or it is going to be hard season if we cannot score as freely as we did last season.
The whole not scoring thing was stemmed from pre season not scoring much, which we also defended really well so it's a bit of a contradiction. To judge what are defensive performance will be based on 45 minutes on the first day of the season is stupid. It's not a good sign but to already dismiss staying up (as some people have) is not on.
Surman's full back Riise spent as much time in the Norwich half as he did the Fulham half in that first period - why did we not start with E. Bennett on the right??
Just got woken up by a message on my phone saying 'you're being stuffed 2-0 by Fulham' nice... Anyway, how's the game been seeing as I've only been up for 5 minutes?
but it is not based on 45 minutes, it's based on 45 minutes + 1 season. I am not saying we are going to be in trouble this season but we certainly could be unless we tighten up at the back, which to me would be pretty unforgivable as we all have seen how frail we are in that department. If we can see it, then CH and his team must be able to see it and have to try and do something about it. CH was a defender and should be able to organise our defence and hopefully he will. I would also point out that sometimes our midfield are guilty as hell of giving the ball away, leaving the defence exposed at times.
If, after around eight games, we're playing like this, panic. Right now, bad start away from home, one to right off and to bring about some hard work on the training pitch. No more, no less.
Worse result than any last season. Out of it vs Fulham after 40mins without their star player..great. Need a reaction next week.
