    Amen, pace is about as important on a centre back as their ability to score from 20 yards. A bonus.

    I can name you 10 quicker cb's if thats what you need ?

    I could name you 10 quicker midfielders as well .

    The point is they are too slow for the premiership , far too slow , as always we will wait for the sky to fall in and then repair it !

    Dann and Johnson are/were slower at Birmingham and they were one of the best pairings in the PL that season. Your point is futile, if you really think a lack of pace in a centre back is important than you are deluded

    Apart from when an attacker gets behind us and you watch the defence scampering back. 'Run you bastard' usually comes to mind.

    That's nothing to do with pace, that's poor positioning.

    It is more a question of whether we make too many mistakes without cover to clear.

    We all know that we are now at the top level and will have some bad days but with the way the team looks like shaping I still think we will be safe.

    Pace in centre backs is deceptive. Strikers and wingers are quicker than them almost without exception. Good timing and positioning can give the impression of pace. Pace in a centre half is a bonus, not a necessity. Like a striker who can slide tackle or a fullback who can find the top corner from 40 yards, it's not the first skill you look for.

    Pace and strength are the bane of the English. Talent developers rely and give too much precedence to these attributes.

    Maybe a different era but same principal. If good enough a quick mind can overcome lack of pace.

    I think a more interesting debate is;

    Would you be more excited by the signing of Gaston Ramirez tomorrow, or if we announced the signing of two £6 million centre backs (not saying it's either or, it's just a more interesting discussion than asking whether we need new centre backs).

    Too much money for a defender...would prefer 2 x 6 million (and no I wouldn't prefer 4 x 3, 3 x 4, 12 x 1 etc:laugh:).
