Why do people think we need two more centre backs - for me I can see us adding one more but not two as I cannot see them being able to keep all the centre backs happy and all you need is a decent pairing and a reliable back up.

But no prospect is going to want to come and not play any first team football and be forth or fifth choice.

Seaborne was the one to loan out. Martin has experience in the Championship and looked good enough at that level to me. Seaborne is a complete unknown quantity at this level. We've seen how Barnard looked in league one, decent, and how poor he looked when returning in the championship. Seaborne will return in prem, that is presuming we don't sign anyone

I also think we were too quick in loaning out Martin. I assumed we had someone in the bag when we did that. I presume Adkins thinks that Seaborne is better (at least at the moment) as a back up.

Seaborne is comfortably better than Martin.

Agreed, but both aren't good enough for the Prem.

He always thought Seaborne was better, because he is. Aaron Martin is a very bad version of Mertesacker.

I remember having a simlar debate here last year before the opening game against Leeds - were we strong enough...they would have a field day etc etc. In the event we virtually annihalated them, and never looked back. I think we will come out with a draw today and will definitely surprise a few people. Keep the faith boys.....

Some think Hooiveld is a bit short of pace and Fonte is a good Championship player, but may not reach Premier standards, therefore it would be good insurance to have a couple of quality Centre Backs to make up the numbers. I don't know for sure, I liked Aaron Martin but he seems to be a "marmite" player.

I will hold you to that , both were found wanting at stages in the chamionship last year and if Hooiveld was that good why would Celtic let him go ? Surplus to requirements from a Spl club is not inspiring and he has no pace , none at all .

Name me 10 quick centre backs in the Premier League. Again this obsession with pace is embarrassing

That Vidic/Kompany/Terry/Cahill/Agger/Lescott/Vermalen/Jagielka/King/Coloccini etc have no pace. Why are they even in the Premier League, it's beyond me.

Pace is important for wingers, alright (not the be all and end all by any means, but it can be used to be very important) but to complain about a lack of pace for CBs, seriously, ****ing hell. What's the point of a football team, let's just get 11 Olympic sprinters. You'd win every game on FIFA with them.
