I'd do it for a bag of crisps and a signed photo of Sagna's wife. Don't price yourself out of the market, mate.
Arsene does it again http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/267519/Toulouse-star-Cheikh-M-Bengue-confirms-Arsenal-talks/ if you're going to sign player from Toulouse, surely all the sense in the world says attempt to sign their best player, who happens to be a CDM named Ettiene Capoue, not a LB, when we already have 2 better LB's. I'm praying it's the Star just looking to fill column inches.
Unless Wenger plans to play Santos further forward on the wing, maybe? Then this chap would become our second left back? I'd struggle to think of why else he'd be interested in another left back when it's the right that is in need of reinforcement. Still, it is only a garbage rag reporting it.
I don't get why he's going after a player we simply do not need. But then again, i don't understand half of what Wenger does these days, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
But thats not the area that needs work. You could put any defender in the world in our current system and they'd look average. If youu see Kos or Verm play for their naional sides they always look top drawer. Gibbs would look better for England. We don't need a LB, we need a DM.
But if he thought that, I imagine he'd try and sell one of them before he bought. I don't trust this rumour at all.
You're right And I do disagree. I think Santos is going to have a big season. He is a good defender and great going forward too.
Have to agree about Gibbs and Santos. Both of those are at least two orders of magnitude worse than Sagna defensively. Even in preseason, out of a team full of reserves, those two were among the worst defensively. They can do a decent job, but the rest of the team will have to compensate for their weak defense. (btw I would start Gibbs out of the two, as at least he can track back faster when he inevitably gets caught out)
I have to be honest and say that I think Gibbs and Santos are poor defensively... good going forward though.
Those of you who think Santos is poor defensively need to watch Arsenal a little more Despite a very slack start to his Arsenal career, getting caught out and looking generally out of shape and not ready for the PL, he turned into our statistically best defender before his injury. He was improving game to game and starting to look a very top quality player and then naturally in Arsenal style he got injured. He will have a good season and just like with Koscielny everyone will realise he is actually a fantastic player. (Don't forget that only a handful of us where singing Kosc's praises during his first season and most of u lot thought he wouldn't be good enough!).
I really rate Santos, I just don't think he's necessarily best used at left back. If he wants to push forward, why not let him? Gibbs is quality, but I occasionally wonder about his judgement and his injury record is always a niggling concern. That said, I'm happy enough with the two of them, I can't see any pressing need to strengthen that position when other areas are crying out for reinforcement.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger on Alex Song's proposed move to Barcelona: "We have Wilshere coming back now, we have Diaby back, we have Rosicky not far away and we might bring someone in."
I heard that Sahin deal could be announcd by Monday, but that he should be here before the Stoke game. If we get Sahin then I'd think Tiote/M'Villa or that other CDM and Llorente and we are set.
