are spurs mad for snapping up AVB? His reputation has gone down after being a hero at Porto and a failure at Chelsea
As I have previously said, on managers on the way down we picked up SBR when he was at the bottom but it worked ok. Different relationship, different club expectations, different budgets etc.
Jewells wigan were loaded and had ambition, Derby were in turmoil and had serious boardroom problems. You cant give Jewell all the praise for Wigan and you cant hold in fully responsible for Derby.

Really. Im not convinced by the guy but his record is impressive and it wouldnt be the first time Chelski has done something daft without properly thinking about the consequences. Think it may be an interesting season and I would love to see him succeed at spurs just to annoy the money mad russian.

I think Jewell has done a decent job with what he has been given. Saying that, we were perilously close to getting relegated last season which would have been disgraceful. This season will offer the clearest indication what way we are headed under Jewell. An improvement on 15th should be expected, a top-half finish would constitute a success in my eyes.

Regarding AVB, good manager with big ideas. Chelsea was the wrong club for him, bunch of arrogant prima-donnas more concerned about themselves than the good of their club. That could describe a number of top flight clubs to be fair haha! Think he'll do okay at Spurs, they'd do well to finish in the top four again.

AVB got done over by the Chelski mafia of Cole, Lampard and biggest dick of them all JT. any manager that mess with them and their little club will be on a loser at that club.

Nuggets, after starting the next big war with your initial postings and disagreeing with alot of your points then I have to agree 100% on your latest postings in relation to Jewell/ Town.
This year there can be no excuses and the lieniency shown last season will not be in place this time round. We have a squad that Jewell knows and is the one he wanted. There should be no short termist papering over the crevices as he has worked with them for long enough. Top half and consistency are both requirements for this season.

I hope we meet expectations and give fans something to smile about more often then the last few years. It's been a tough job supporting Ipswich Town. I was with my mates in Magaluf last year when we watched Peterborough stick seven past us! They were all glory hunters as well!

Once again this will prove to be a very tough and unpredictable division. It's becoming a bit of cliche but there are about a dozen teams that fancy their chances at promotion. Let's hope we get off to a good start at home against Blackburn. I can only imagine how pissed off their supporters have been over the past 18 odd months.

Steve Kean is on borrowed time. I'm surprised he hasn't been sacked already! A spokesman at the club speculated Kean would be sacked if they lost three games on the trot. The same guy also branded Morten Gamst Pedersen a "pensioner". Don't know what to expect from the match, on paper Blackburn have a very strong team, the signings of Danny Murphy and Dickson Etuhu are a particular highlight for them. Both players should perform well on a consistent basis in the Championship.

Afternoon/evening Spanish. What's your opinion of Paul Jewell? If we're supposed to be getting someone in, not long left. Maybe that "someone" was supposed to be Maurice Edu before he bottled it?

Found this post on TWTD from a Blackburn fan:

    jogalot added 15:42 - Aug 17

Robinson was poor last season, Dann was awful, perhaps etuhu, Murphy and Kazim will be up for it but if you don't beat us, you really are in a bad way. Rovers have no fight, the manager has no clue about signings, team selection or tactics. All you need it to attack, put a bit of pressure on our defence and you'll score. Perhaps to some of you on paper Rovers seem good but any team with fight and determination and fitness will see Rovers collapse under the pressure.
    .
Like most fans of Rovers, I want Rovers to lose tomorrow in the hope that Kean will be sacked and Venkys will sell up. Our club is being asset stripped and there's nothing we can do about it. Completely crazy? You bet - not me but the regime running our once proud club.

I think people here are forgetting the january transfer window still exists. Lots of talk about needing players in to cope with injuries/suspensions over the course of a season but we have another opportunity to strengthen in the winter. I would rather see us hold on to some cash to spend then than spend it now on players who don't fit in with what we are trying to do. We brought in a lot of players last summer just to have the numbers and look where that got us. I'm not denying we need bodies in but I'm not interested in signing just anybody for the sake of it.

Whilst I'm not a fan of too many loans, is it not better to get someone in for three months to fill a gap than panic buy someone, give them a two/three year contract only to find out they're ****? We should use the loan system to fill gaps whilst we go about finding the right people to bring in permanently. At least with loans you are not burdened with them should they turn out to be crap. It takes a little time to get in everyone you want.

good evening all, it seems that I am like a few others and have had a summer off the boards. I've been browsing all the whole but think it is time to get involved again. this is a really interesting thread as it once again shows that fans are divided as to where we are, opinions of PJ, where we are going to finish etc.

to keep it short, for me we are not in the best of positions and with this squad a mid table position would be decent. But I think that if we can get three people in before the window closes in the right positions then we could be a force at the top end of the table.
its plainly obvious that we need a centre back (preferably very tall!) someone who can play on the wing and I would also like another striker. In the big debate as to whether our midfield is strong enough you need to remember that we should be able to add that kourouma lad to that position. for me there are more pressing matters that the centre of midfield.

I really do believe that there are a lot of positives and with just a couple more signings we could really do well. chopra should get 20+ this season (that would be the first time since marcus stewart i think, maybe darren bent??) and JET should be one of the players in the division.

on to tomorrow it seems that blackburn are in much more of a shambles than us and on what promises to be a lovely day I fully expect a victory! I'll be going, I hope you will all be too and in answer to how many blackburn fans there will be JWM I would be surprised if there are more than about 400!!!
