Looks like Liverpool and Spurs target has joined the Saints for a reported fee of 15m Euros. Very good bit of business on their behalf http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/7997121/Saints-agree-record-deal
Oh, I didn't realise you were talking about it there. I'm shocked I can tell you that, and like you've said, it will be interesting to see if any one of us try to stop it.
Martin Jol has just confirmed that Dempsey wants out of Fulham and he has been left out of this weekends squad. Could he be a good option for us? Something tells me that he might actually fit with the way AVB wants to set up the team, he is a consistent goal scorer in a relatively average team and holds the ball up well. Not sure what his contract situation is but guess that Fulham will want top dollar for him and his wage demands may be too high as well, based on recent events....
I like Dempsey, has got better each year he has been in the league, and even if he has reached his peak then his peak is pretty good! will get goals and can support the striker (if we have one). Only issue is that I can't see him being first choice as we already have sig and vdv as the two main central players to support strikers and VDV is clearly a better player and I wouldn't want sigs progress blocked by Dempsey.
Dempsey is more flexible than those 2 i'd say, capable of playing on either wing or supporting the striker.
Being flexible is fine but I would rather have players that aren't flexible but excel in their natural position and Dempsey wouldn't start ahead of sig or VDV and is he going to play on the wing ahead of Lennon or Bale? don't see it myself as going by AVB's previous teams he likes pace from the wings and Dempsey isn't a speedster. However I rate Dempsey, think he is a class act, just don't see him as a improvement on what we have.
Have to say, that I was thinking of utilising Dempsey as the '1' in a 4/2/3/1 system. He's no speedster but he is mobile, holds the ball well and knows where the net is.
And here was me just saying I hope he does well for you and that I want you to stay up. I'll ignore your cheap comments as I expect you have been mixing with the Chelsea fans and that's enough to turn anyone into a complete ******.
I'm hearing rumours of us signing Meireles instead of Moutinho as a replacement for Modric. I'm not entirely sure why, but I'd be a little pissed if this happens. I think the defensive side of Meireles' game scares me.
Call me insane Relayer69, but you see that "1" i actually want that position to be filled by a striker !
'Owned by Southampton'? You may have bought a player who someone (possibly his agent) suggested was interesting Spurs and Liverpool. Mmmmm..... If our interest was remotely serious: Are you likely to outbid either club? No Are you likely to offer a higher salary? No If I were you I would be more concerned with working out why (if indeed it was ever true) we chose not to pursue an interest....
Dempsey - he's already 29 though and don't levy and AVB want youth? he's also likely to come with an over inflated premiership price. especially to a London rival. can't see it myself. I hate Miereles almost as much as I hate Adam. as for Ramirez.. its it official and over the line yet? liverpool will know all too well what happend to Sigurdsson, so be careful what you say at this stage. Best of luck to you guys if you do get him, and make the most of it. He'll be using you guys as a stepping stone unfortunately, as that's how it is i'm afraid. we've had our fair share of it over the years too.
Think you will find that any player with a 1:3.5 goal ratio is generally considered a striker. And he has played in that role occasionally for Fulham. So maybe you might want to dust off the straightjacket.....
Dempsey isn't a striker, he is a midfielder that scores goals, its like saying VDV is a striker, both players can play off a striker but Dempsey is certainty not striker material for a club aiming for the top four.
His best work is done alongside another striker, off the striker or out a bit wider. I've never seen him hold up the ball, make runs past the defence or anything else really that lone strikers do. Also VDV managed 1 in 3 last season, does that make him a striker?
