He'll only have to carry Carrick and Anderson this season.

Congratulations on signing Vermaelen next summer by the way, he's just been confirmed as Arsenal's new captain.

Also, congratulations on winning the league this coming season. <ok>

Hey Matth, please can you add your post to an existing one and refrain from starting new ones. You'll get banned otherwise.

Oops...didn't check the author properly :emoticon-0109-kiss:

A lot of tosh is being said about this transfer:

One said in one of the broadsheets it is as significant as the Cantona one. United will now be galvanised and sweep everyhting in front of them as the strikeforce is as good as any in Europe. While I am hoping that RVP will fit in, I cannot see him leading United to triumphs like Cantona.

It is also said that Wenger had no choice but to sell to United. Of course that is rubbish. United offered the highest price but there is no rule which said that Arsenal has to sell to the highest bidder if it meant reinforcing one of your rivals. Does Madrid have to sell to Barcelona if they can seel to Bayern or Chelsea, even if it meant a slightly lower price? What's the difference between £24 million and £20 from Juventus or any other European club when you are one of the top 10 football clubs in the world in terms of valuation? As wenger himself admitted this is a major setback for Arsenal and a coup for United.

I have no specific sympathy for Arsenal. But when are they going to draw a line? Wenger has also admitted today that they may lose Song. What if someone offers x million for Vermalaen? Dont they say they have had enough selling for one season? "Money does not play football. Players do" as Wenger said. Too early to write them off but I cannot see them challenging this season.

Well apparently RVP would only move to Utd, and wouldn't speak to Juve or City. Wenger cannot force him to move to a club if he won't sign a contract for them, no matter how much money they offer. So Wenger's choice was either to sell him to Utd, or lose him for nothing in the summer. Or risk him just buying out the last year of his contract under the Webster ruling and having the fee set by a court / tribunal.

Great signing for United and a nice bit of business for us. IF he stays fit for the season or at least long enough to make a difference then I think coupled with Rooney's goals you'll be a force to be reckoned with but as the cliche goes... footballs a funny old game.

Tweeting someones wife that you wish them dead over a football transfer is pathetic, just like standing outside someones house in protest of a transfer is pathetic, trying to justify one while condemning the other makes you look like nothing more than a bitter idiot.

I agree both are pathetic and who is condoning either? Do you want me to also bring up some tweets sent to coleen and wayne during the city saga? we could be here all day.

As for bitter... try harder mate. you'd love to think that.

Stop trying to split hairs mate. Coming to someones house or tweeting their wife with threats are equally pathetic. You should have really thought before posting. It was pretty obvious some gooners would be pissed off at RVP and threaten him or his family. Thats the stupid society we live in.

Both pathetic yes but clearly one is more intimidating than the other. It does not take a genius to see this. When your fans make comments about gooners losing their heads over the RVP saga they obviously have short memories when we saw the same kind of reaction about Rooneys possible move to city.
