Agreed with C58 and Robes. I find it hard to believe that the players we have only signed for us because our ground is near a river.
News from our end is that Dempsey is close. Think this is because he didn't travel with the USA to play Mexico and because Rodgers told LFC.TV today that he expects two signings in the coming days - most likely Dempsey and Madrid's Nuri Sahin on loan.
So it looks like Luka Modric is finally on his way to Real Madrid. Somewhat reassuring is that Moutinho and M'Vila are the potential replacements named, rather than Dembele. Dembele is due a big move soon, but I hope he'll give us another year or two first.
Certainly looks as though the Sahin deal will go through, NI - a bit of a coup there. Could the other signing not be Ramirez though? http://www.crunchsports.com/category/Soccer/Liverpool-FC-eye-more-signings-Sahin-Ramirez-Dempsey-linked-with-LFC-201208160014/
I think Ramirez might be hot air - his agent is known to be notorious for whoring his players. But, I can see the logic in terms of cost, the realism of the transfer, age, Uruguayan link etc. Can't see us spending another £15M or so on a single player (though I'd love to be proven wrong). Sahin will be a good acquisition if he signs, apparently it's being announced later. Might mean we see less of Stevie G, or he plays on the wing (!). Anyway... I was thinking of putting Petric in my fantasy team, and maybe Frei as a cheap bench player. Is this recommended?
Well the second player is not Dempsey NI, or Ramirez. Looks like you've signed Assaidi - bit miffed actually since we've been after him since January. Probably says something that. http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/reds-agree-deal-for-winger
No because that's who I've got in my Team. Looks like you have signed Oussama Assaidi from Heerenveen, like C58 said we were reported to be after him last January and again in May, when he was reported to be seen at our Training ground, Motspur Park.
Sorry to steal him from you guys then. Know nothing about him, were you looking forward to him or not?
I thought the deal for those two (including Assaidi) was dead a long while ago, so nothing to apologise for, jaffakop
Dempsey's frustrations are beginning to surface on Twitter. He tweeted this a couple of days ago: "God with me partner Ain't no one for me to fear Hindsight 20/20 Future not as clear" (T.I.)
Steven N'Zonzi Reported iinterest in the Blackburn midfielder - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2189470/Fulham-want-Steven-NZonzi-Blackburn.html Problem is, it is yet again by the Mail who have been running some daft transfer stories about us in the last week. In this particular one there is also reference to our interest in Reo-Coker which we know is dead and buried because he was asking for silly money.
All his tweets have been quoting lines from songs from his favoutite artists, fullhamish. Might mean something, might be he's just repping. The most telling thing for me though was George Cohen's article on the Official site today. Just look at the second last paragraph and ask who's name is missing - http://www.fulhamfc.com/Club/News/NewsArticles/2012/August/CohensComments.aspx I've no doubt someone with George's integrity would determine the general tenor of the article but equally it would be naiive to believe that the published version is other than 'orchestrated' by the Club's Press Office.
Thanks Cottager. It's not out of the question that if Dempsey is still a Fulham player on the morning of 1 September that we'll see him turning out for the club again, but all the signs are that it's just a question of when he leaves, where he goes, and how much for. Whatever's going on, I hope it's sorted in time for us to reinvest the money. I still like the look of Nacer Chadli from FC Twente as a replacement.
Liverpool have played the classic "big team" hand here. They've turned Clint's head and unsettled him, then they'll run the clock down to try and force us to sell cheap. I'm starting to think that maybe we take £5m and Adam and move on. Spend that £5m on Chadli or whomever and go from there. I don't think we especially need Adam, but he will at least have a sell on value if things don't work out. We need to get at least one winger in I think, to compete with Duff/Davies for the veteran slot opposite Frei/Kaca/Mesca.
I don't think we should be getting players in for their resale value alone. If we don't want Adam as a player (and there's an argument either way for that), we shouldn't sign him. Otherwise we're just taking Liverpool's unwanted player problem off their hands and creating the same problem for ourselves. His wages wouldn't come cheap, apart from anything else. I think Clint was unsettled to start with. He wants to move onwards and upwards and I still don't blame him for that. It's a shame that it has dragged on. I just hope that it ends amicably and without tarnishing his relationship with either the club or the fans. He's been great for us and deserves nothing but good. As for wingers, I'm not so sure we need another for competition. Ruiz can play there as well. I think what we need is one or both of a central midfield schemer and an out-and-out centre forward. I'd take Hooper and Ramsey as first choices, I think, although I'd be delighted to see Jordan Rhodes turn up. More likely, if we sign anyone it'll be someone most of us have never heard of, leading half of us to enthuse over wikipedia-based stats while the other half bemoan the fact that he isn't good enough and that we ought to be getting in someone unrealistically well-established. Trust in Jol.
I think that is there tactic too. I don't know how well it will work though, given that we don't need to sell for financial reasons, I don't think Jol is operating on a 'one in one out' basis and we've already been preparing the team for life without him there is no pressure for us to sell. Hopefully, as we get closer to the deadline, the need for Liverpool to get a new player in will force his value up.
He looks decent for £3m - we have no depth at all after selling Kuyt, Bellamy and Maxi so it's welcome. Also, he has pace to burn, which we haven't had for a long time. I can't get my head around why Martin Jol has said 1) He can't keep Dempsey and 2) He wants a good price. Shouldn't he have kept quiet?
