Jury's out with this one, I feel it smacks of desperation on our part, I know he's a proven premier league striker and all that, but, still desperation I think

In all fairness...we were kinda desperate... at least with Saha you know he can do it...

Wickham showed potential but obv still needs a few years, Ji i think could do it with a run in the team and a better understanding of the language

In its own way though, SAF signing RVP for £24m (when they could have signed him in January for next year for nowt) smacks of desperation as well. The difference is RVP has cost them £24m more than Saha will cost us.

You could say almost all signings are desperate to a point, as the buying club are usually desperate to bring new faces in.

Its a free to view video interview on SAFC.com as well.

To be fair, the lad sounds up for the game this weekend and fit enough to play some part at least. He is a better player than Bendtner and plays mopre directly (bit like Bent) so our attack will have much more focus and threat imo.

I'm really looking forward to Saturdays game now and hopefully Sess is fit too and we will play a nice looking formation imo.

Good signing, a MON signing, he will get the best out of Saha, I can see him getting some vital goals for us. He was free too which is even better.

Only foreign clubs can discuss bosman transfers with players six months before. United would have had to wait until May by which time Juventus would have had it sown up.

I really think and hope that Westwood will be our number 1 this season.

If he is fit he is a natural goalscorer. Is he a good signing? It would all depend on the deal in terms of wages etc. But that doesn't really matter to the supporter, only Ellis Short. Its likely he will miss a fair chunk of the season through injury but he is talented. It certainly takes the pressure out of the striker situation a little and maybe strengthens the Sunderland position on Fletcher. Personally I think we'll see Mr Moxey take the 12 plus add ons before the window closes. Its stupendous money for the lad and nobody else seems interested. I can't believe he'll just retain an unhappy player when he has an offer that really exceeds the value of the player.

The stumbling block for Fletcher is the amount Wolves will have to pay Burnley. That however is not our problem and we should now turn our attention elsewhere (or at least make it look that way) and make Moxley sweat a little.
Wolves have quite understandably chanced their arm by asking for a ridiculous amount. After all, Daglish paid a stupid amount of money for a player not as good imo so why not try.

For my own part and its pure speculation of course, I think that our bids have not been in the plus £10m bracket personally as suggested in the media and that we are sticking to our guns of a lower price with add ons and have now told Fletcher to start and get the ball rolling internally. His transfer request has weakened Wolves hand imo and our signing Saha reduced the desperation for us too.

Saha waited 'til now to sign because he was waiting for a so-called bigger or better club. If he really wanted to be here he would have signed when his contract was up at Spurs - and that is another story with legs to it.

Please. He has to do a job. To my mind his job might be 20 minutes a game when we need a goal.

Who is gonna do it in the other 70 mins?

I for one am pleased about this signing.
If we can keep him in one piece, we have someone who can hit the net.
We have the players in McClean and Larson who can supply the bullets.

I was so frustrated last season that Bendtner wouldn't go that extra couple of feet to get in the box and numerous chances went by the bye.
Saha loves to get in the box and he is a good reader of the game.
He also doesn't need every goal laying on a plate for him.
He is 10 times the player Fletcher is.
All things going well for him fitness wise, I think he will grab bagfulls of goals for us.

    MR

Listenin to what ur saying and hope = pray ur right.....

    BUT

He hasn't been 100% fit any season in the last 12.

    He is 34.

20 games 10 goals would do me.

    Hope he's pay per play

Bobby the way I look at it is.
Fletcher could come for £15 mill get crocked first game and we are back up **** creek.
No player is actually invulnerable, I think we can all agree Saha on his day is a world class hitman.

    Is it a risk?
Of course it is, but the situation we are in, to my mind, warrants this one year contract risk.
Dear God all that money spent on Whickam (for one for the future!!!) was more of a risk and clearly didn't pay off.
Bringing in a real goalscorer, even with his injury worry has actually got me buzzing a little bit.

If we can get a top striker in too, then good signing (passing on knowledge to our youngsters & so on) but if we don't bring anyone else in then how long until he is injured? I am glad we have an experienced forward in now tho.

Spot on LW, but why fear him getting an injury it could happen to any player.

Like you I think another good striker in would be a big plus though.

Good point MR. Injuries can happen anytime. Look at poor Ashton or muamba.

Will be class to actually have striker in the box too for sess/larsson/McLean to find.

We have some very promising youngsters & if he gives them a lil know how we could have some very good youngsters.

If you can keep him on the pitch, he will score more than fletcher IMO. Good player. Age is nothing, only signed him for a season isn't it?? No risk in the deal, just need to keep him on the pitch.
