You know, with all the previous signings so far this season, the rumours have been strong and journalists sounded positive about the moves happening. All the moves that are rumoured now are weak and no one sounds positive. So, I have a feeling that not much is actually happening now. Anyway, there's still plenty of time before deadline day.
Taarabt is 23 so doesn't qualify for that rule. Hoilett and Fabio both turned 22 in early July so they would qualify. Traore was born in October.
Now I'm confused!! If the beginning of year thing I correct, does that then give us 4 more squad places to fill? We should just by African players, they all seem to be u21, even the 30 year olds. I think yakubu and Kanu are only 19...
So true but do they still qualify to play in that monthly cup of acorns thing when they're 19 and 250 quarters old?!
That's what TF has said apparently - see KentGaz's "Who's Coming In Thread"! It is the clean version!
I think you are all getting ahead of yourselves, although this gives us a good indication there is no guarantee that any of these players will make the 25 squad. So I think there is still plenty of room for maneuvers, for new numbers and new and existing players to be given a squad number and added to the magic 25 not counting any 21 year olds.
The under 21 rule applies to players 21 or under at the end of August. So Fabio, Taarabt, Hoilett and Traore do not qualify. Only Harriman, Doughty and Ehmer qualify. So if all the players given a number who are over the age limit are in the 25 we have two spaces left. Imo it does show we are light in some areas - especially up front - we only have three strikers.
The fact it's a straight swap is weird. Hargreaves couldn't be given a squad number unless he'd signed a contract already, so his absence from the list means nothing. The U21 rule is based on their age at New Year not any time over the summer so it does extend it for a few months for people. 21 is supposed to be Bullard's number, and he's just left Ipswich.
What is Folans number? You might be onto something there. I think its pretty safe to say anyone with a squad number is in the 25 (bar the youth who dont need to be) and anyone without a number is gone unless we cant get our targets in.
Me too Add in MH comments about Faurlin and they are strikingly familiar to what Warnock said about Rowlands when he first joined. Both players coming back from a serious injury when the new gaffers arrived, which can be tough, cause when they are back and raring to go the new boss already has brought his "own" players in. There was supposedly a falling out (not confirmed) between NW and MR, something that there's nothing to suggest that has happened between MH and Ale. Hopefully this is nothing and MH is true to his word that Faurlin will have a big part to play in our future.
Mackie can play there and Taarabt and Hoilett can play the 2nd striker role but I still think we need 1 more big man in.
Exactly this. If I remember correctly Hulse and Pat were given squad numbers this time last year so dont think it means much as it stands. Tis the end of the month when all will be finalised.
I think he had 9 and 18 while he was with us. Not sure what he had in our promotion season though. Bullard is the one who's been linked with you under the current owners though, although I'll be honest and say I've tried winding the Leeds fans up on the basis of Warnock being a fan. Were Hughes and Bullard at Fulham together at any point though?
