A significantly better contract and team captaincy might make Demps to stay... Arsenal will not splash the money and might be another transfer period where they create noise!
I've never respected the thought of giving someone the captaincy purely to make them stay at the club, it significantly devalues the privilege. A captain should be the person at the club who's heart is 100% at the team he plays with, not with someone who's got one foot out the door. If someone wants to leave then I'd prefer it if they just left, rather than give them an armband and hope they change their mind. Saying that, if Clint came out and said he definitely wanted to stay here for the foreseeable future I wouldn't be adverse to seeing him as Captain, but I don't see that happening somehow. I think Brede has earned the right to be Captain anyway, he stayed with us when Arsenal came calling so has proven his loyalty to FFC.
I'm with you. I said in another thread a while back that giving the Captaincy to players heading out of the door is a bad idea - look at Arsenal.
