Please link me to one of your posts where you've been funny/entertaining. You've been on here for more than a year. I reckon it'll be a bit of a challenge
It's a tricky one. Must be awful to be in such mental torment with paralysis. On the other hand you have Steven Hawkins who has made a fairly tidy career in Ventriliquism. So nothing is insurmountable in essence.
I'm not religious and I am probably leaning towards being anti abortion in most cases too. For instance, what a horrendously lame excuse it would be for a settled and well to do person to terminate a pregnancy because they don't want to cause a negative effect on their career at any given point? When we first legalised abortion it was supposed to be only in special cases, when the mother's mental health was at sake - now they accept the inconvenience of a career break as possibly having an effect on the mother's mental health, and therefore being a valid excuse. I know there are quite a few arguments for being pro-abortion and we can be here all night without anyone ever agreeing with each other - but I think it's fair to say that you can't just write off my views on the subject as idiotic.
Pretty much sums it up for me Mick. No one is asking the victim of incest or rape to carry on with a pregnancy but if you couldn't be arsed running 10 minutes up the road for condoms then you take responsability.
I don't see what harm this guy being allowed to die would do, so I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with it. His family have come to terms with it and he's got no quality of life, so what's the objection?
Where does it end? how ill does someone need to be to be able to legally end their life? What if the person in question is sitting on a lot of loot and his/her wife/husband uses his/her obvious vulnerability to sway them?
Rape, incest, significant risk of harm to the mother and probability that the child will be severely disabled (to the point where there is no quality of life) are the only valid excuses for abortion I'm afraid. "I'm due a promotion" and "I couldn't be arsed using contraception" (especially as the morning-after pill is so readily available these days) don't justify smashing a foetus into little pieces and sucking the remains out with a suction pump, in my book.
How would you enforce that though, Jip? Rape and incest victims have probably been through enough without asking them to prove it, in order to get an abortion.
