OP, should we base loyalty more so on a player staying at his club at the peak of his career despite having bids made for him, even if he may have played at previous clubs before?
players are just greedy these days>>>>>>and lets be honest the standards of the prem have dropped on a major scale so why are wages getting higher for below standard players........arsenal are right pay em what they are worth or sell them on for them 2 leech off some other cash cows udders
How do you know that Arsenal tried to persuade RVP or any of them to stay. Maybe they jumped before they were pushed. Maybe the plan was always to sell players that were average but had one good season. Players are always over-valued after they have just had a good year.
It's the same situation as Ashley Cole. Massively dislikeable figure, class player and one of the best and most consistent of his generation. When Neville was playing for arguably the best club side in the world (at the time), who was playing that was better? Not as good, better?
Ok, you can carry on beliving Nevillie was one of the best full backs ever while the rest of us will continue to live in reality.
oh come on that's such an urban myth, Gerrard hasn't been playing at LFC for the last few years (since Chelsea rumours) purely because he's being held hostage by the "scouse mafia" ffs
Yeah, great player, excellent going forward but not very solid defending. Didn't win much at club level either (if memory serves) Good shout though. I didn't think you could back yourself up either.
No, I don't think it's only important if you are a top 4 club. The point merely was that Sol Campbell left to join a bigger club who were winning things. RVP has possibly done the same, but we right now have more chance of winning the CL for example than Tottenham did when Sol left. I have no problem with RVP leaving to possibly win things with the ****y mancs, but his loyalty after being supported through numerous injury plagued seasons is questionable. Sol was rightly hated for what he did to you boys, it was unforgiveable. But very funny for us. There is no loyalty like there was with the likes of Adams and mabbutt anymore.
the only loyalty left in football is coming from the fans another sad season of drama play acting and inciting hatred is upon us in the prem lge>>>>>.thank fk i follow cardiff city for a bit of realism
Many listed here as being loyal were most likely too scared to leave their comfort zone. Messi, Pele, Le Tissier to name just 3. There are teams that have better prospects of success than Arsenal and of course a player is entitled to move on in the hope of doing better. However, there are ways of conducting yourself in order to make such a move and RVP must have known he was going to Manu before he started his antics. Too much of a coincidence that he started acting like a piece of scum before actually becoming one officially.
John Terry - Turned down United earlier on his career and then turned down City 4 years ago. Del Piero - Stayed with Juve despite national shame after match fixing and subsequent relegation. Took pay cut. Le Tissier - Stayed with Southampton his entire career and could have moved to a bigger club or abroad.
People like to talk loyalty and morales but they don't exist in football. Clubs aren't loyal Managers aren't loyal Players aren't loyal Why do players have to be loyal when managers and clubs aren't?
The only loyalty in football in football is from the fans but we are the most fickle and the biggest hypocrites.Forums and Twitter are today full of abuse and anger aimed at RVP.The football season starts on Saturday and Arsenal fans will be cheering on Podolski,Giroud and Cazorla. What is the difference between those three and what RVP has done ?
Can always rely on you for some sense Cym. It goes on all the time. I'll bet Southampton felt the same when Walcott, Ox and Bale all left for Arsenal and Spurs respectively. It's a food chain really.
I'm a wise old man We slate Tottenham fans for singing abusive songs towards Sol Cambell<sic> but some of the abuse we've given Adebayor is just as bad
Claimed/feigned loyalty, perhaps? If somebody's honest and professional, then I find it far easier to accept their desire to leave than if someone's constantly declared their love for the club and then gone on strike to force a move.
This is what (for me, anyway) is so distasteful about Van Persie: All this claiming to love the club etc. I couldn't give two shakes about Nasri etc, who cares? But for someone on the cusp of becoming a club great, it's difficult.
Van Persie left because he is guaranteed silverware next season now. Surely you can understand that he could not turn down the chance od being gifted Champions League and premier League winners medals along with a potential FA cup and Capital one cup winners medal. The lad will win more in each of his seasons at the biggest stage in world football than he did at his 9 seasons at your little amateur set up near Tottenham. MUFC- how could anyone turn down the biggest sporting club in the world.
