I really hope that Division 4 keeper Butland has a 'mare tonight. It's an absolute fcuking disgrace that senile old Woy has picked him ahead of our John. I'm bloody livid
Total injustice he would still be unheard of if Ruddy hadn't broken his finger ! I thought he was very ordinary for team GB, woy obviously missed those games ?
Nope, he's just said hey've gone for Butland over Ruddy because, and I quote, 'he's been playing regularly for Team GB'! So sod the fact Ruddy has been playing regularly for a mid-table Premier League side while Butland was playing for Cheltenham at the same time
Its a shame Hodgson didn't have the same approach at the Euros. The tournament might have been a worthwhile excercise.
I've heard they are playing a half each? If that's the case than I don't really mind what half he plays.
Butland has just been beaten by a header, which passed him into the exact centre of the goal. The commentator claims it would have taken an outstanding save...Ruddy would have been more than capable of stopping it.
It's the way ITV are trying to make it the Butland show, every time the ball goes within a 10 yard radius of him they feel the need to pan the camera onto him and talk more about him. I don't like young players making the senior team when they are not good enough to be in the first 11. It's stupid, get the senior team used to playing with one another and used to Roy's system and tactics.
You have to experiment in friendlies, the seniors have been playing together for years, the only difference is they don't even have to try and play football now, just win free kicks.
Whats the point in experimenting with young (not good enough yet) players if they won't get in the squad for competitive games? That's what the U21's is for. Especially with a new manager who hasn't got his tactics right yet. Experiment yes, but not with players who have no getting in squads. Jake Livermore and Steven Caulker are prime examples, the whole England team is a waste of time.
...and surely you should only experiment when it might unearth a solution to problem. Ruddy and Hart are both only 25; Fraser Forster is only 24. We don't need younger kids coming through to replace them for 5 years at least.
Exactly. Forster won't get a sniff as long as he is playing in Scotland though. In my opinion there needs to be consistency in the 25 man squad running up to the World Cup. Obviously not the exact team everytime but don't make drastic and pointless changes.
I'd agree the whole England team is a waste of time. But we know the established players are not good enough so why pick them? at least we don't know whether the others can cope and they might learn a thing or two along the way. Say he plays Ruddy/Butland, Ruddy/Butland makes 3 howlers and is like a rabbit caught in lights. Hodgson would have found out who he can't rely on if Hart is injured. Say both keepers have howlers, wouldn't that bring about a problem, say both keepers have blinding games, then it tells Hodgson he doesn't have a problem.
WE have to get our best team playing with each other to stand a chance. I don't really have a problem with Ruddy, but is Butland the third best English keeper at the moment? Baring in mind he has only played in League 2? I don't think he is at all. Potentially he can be, so why risk him making mistakes which could have a devastating effect on his development?
Our best team doesn't stand a chance, why not try and develop a proper team? Not under Hodgson though. He has no footballing moral fibre.
