I have not been in the area for the last few days and unfortunately I am unable to go to any matches for sometime yet, but reading through the posts there is not much about the big German centre forward. So what are the thoughts of him, has he played in any of citys' recent matches? How good will he be?
I wouldn't say he was ****. The closest he's come to scoring was a quick half chance where it flashed across him in the area and he chucked his left leg at it but he didn't really make contact. He hasn't exactly had a really good chance at any point (except maybe at Rochdale/Hartlepool, I wasn't there). He looks to have a good touch and control and he can head it well. The thing is he's quite weak and hasn't won that many headers so his ability to direct them is a bit wasted. I think he'll come good, he just needs to toughen up a little bit, and I think he knows it.
he is really trying too hard. getting to headers too early. snapping at relatively easy chances (and yes the missed opportunities at Rochdale and Hartlepool were 2.6 million pound howlers) and he almost looks too anxious to prove himself too early. he has been spent and fatigued by 60 mins of each game i ve seen him play in. i still believe, but its hard to remain too optimistic based on what's been on show so far.
He needs to get used to our game, but that was known; all he needs is a run of competitive games to bring him on in fitness and sharpness - then judge.
Brucey agrees with mussie - "If I'm honest I think he's trying too hard. He just needs to calm down and relax a little bit. He ran himself to a standstill for the team at the weekend and once you're fatigued, sometimes the mind goes too. "I'm sure he just needs one chance to put away and he'll be fine. I've got no doubts about that.' http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-16711313-detail/story.html? He's definitely got some skill on the ball, but he needs to get used to the physicality of the Championship and settle down a bit, he's snapping at stuff to much.
He reminds me of Jan Venegoor, in that he looks like a good player, but for his size he doesn't win enough headers and his finishing isn't brilliant. Obviously this is only based on two appearances. I can't see him been a 20 goal a season striker for us personally.
He was impressive in the Norwich game and won both in the air and on the ground. On Saturday he seemed to be trying too hard and was looking for the ball too deep rather than on the edge of the box. This is really a mid field problem as collectively they were too deep on Saturday. Ironically against Norwich the mid field has higher up the pitch and McKenna was actually looking forward rather than instinctively turning around to lay the ball off and build from the back. This approach encourages the front me to drop back to give the outlet. The answer therefore lies in mid field much as it did last season with poor service /scraps to the front men.
i think hel be one of them signings who takes a few months to find his feet and settle in from the little ive seen of him, just hope he gets a goal as early as possible to get that monkey off his back
Not just with Proschwitz but the whole team, it seems we are not yet ready for the season! Anyone else get that impression?
One of the problems with this signing is that is the only really big signing we made in terms of money so the pressure is on the lad straight away. He hasn't got any kind of experience to prove he can deal with this along with the obvious lack of experience in our kind of football. Before Mr Angry turns up berating us for judging a player before the season starts you would hope that your 2 million striker would at least have bagged a couple of goals against the mostly crap opposition we have been up against to give him a bit of a boost. I would admire Bruce if he doesn't start him immediately but then there will be questions asked of the manager. Bad situation to start the season with.
The size of the fee doesn't seem to be troubling him much, he sounds pretty level headed... http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-16704661-detail/story.html?
Agreed. Far too early to make any sound judgement. He will need at least 12 league games before any real assessment can be given. As Steve Bruce has said "Nick is trying too hard at times. Relax and the goals will come" Indeed so. We could have signed Messi and the same judgements would have been made. Give him a chance ffs. Not at all. I think many other championship teams have bigger problems looking at the coc games played so far. Its still way too early,, imo His penalty showed just how deadly Nick P. can be in front of goal though. Best pen ive seen for ages.
I don't think anybody has 'judged' him, just pointed out a few things, we all want him to do well. I would leave him out and let him have a look at the first few games, bring him on as a sub.
Having him on the bench for a few games would make sense in a lot of ways. Could you imagine, however, the arse wipes that ring Radio Humberside and what they'd make of it? It would be hilarious. BRUCE OUT!!!!! I can hear it now.
