I am not going to call any of my fellow fans names but bloody hell we got beat,we lost to a better team on the night, they were up for it,we were crap, well done the Gills and happy birthday Martin Allen,I am now looking for a reaction and am up for a battle with Nottingham Forest and the real challenge of Championship football,no judgements,no criticism of individuals,no throwing the baby out with the bath water, just a sound performance on Saturday.. We have just played 7 pre-season games and 1 Cup match,we have won 4,drawn 1 and lost 3,not a bad run and all the cheer boys were going mad until tonight,I thought not a bad run. I think we are in for a great season under Delboy,so SOD the doom and gloom boys and the know alls and UP THE CITY....
Bollox, we should be prepared, fit, and easily beating a div4 side, we lost because we are s****, you must be fkn delusional..
I could write an article on the faults of tonight but I'd have no idea how to relate it to the rest of the season, as it probably won't have any bearing at all. Two fullbacks who've played regularly in pre-season were unavailable (one on international and t'other on trial) so Delboy altered the formation to one that had more attack in the hope to capitalise on a League 2 side. This didn't work. The Gills pressed, they hassled. Pearson, who is quite an adept attacking midfielder, was pushed into a defensive position. Stead couldn't do a thing as he was forced to be a long ball outlet. Del was pissed, we were pissed. We went a goal down. This is the only fault I've found of his, he knows what's wrong but waits until his hand is forced to change it. So he changed it, Skuse was moved to midfield (where he was excellent after a poor first half at right back; understandable, he didn't play there in pre-season). It looked better. There were still faults, Woolford should have gone off at half-time to be replaced by Bryan and ended up having such a poor game at left back that it was impossible to sub him as the crowd reaction would have been like transfer-listing him. All ten stayed back for corners, which was absurd and you didn't need to be clairvoyant to see that things wouldn't go well. But hey. It's the first game of the damn season. Gillingham didn't look like they could score from open play which made us staying so deep all the more confusing. But no, I'm not filled with doom. Nothing's changed. Don't go altering your vote in the final league position poll based on tonight.
A total over reaction based on one result. Seems like some have been waiting all summer long for this. I'd like to see a couple of competitive league games, our style, how we play before I start proclaiming our doom. Give it a rest FFS....

You'd be better off telling some of the children on here to WISE up. McInnes knows we need the 3 players but nevertheless screwed up tonight. Foster was less effective as he was selected wrong side. Was much better 2nd half at RB - Surprised ? Playing Tanglefeet lessens Fontaine's effectiveness. Wilson's a better bet just for balance alone, surely to God he can't be as bad as Nyatanga. Morris or was it Lee Johnson in CM tonight. Do I have to say more ? We play as a 1 trick pony - Albert, end of. Selecting Woolford and then playing him LB 2nd half - I ask you. Total bloody strangers - Clueless, absolutely clueless.
Have you seen some of the mundane comments on here tonight about individuals in our club,if I thought you deserved a comment of get stuffed I would direct it at you no problem, this was a general comment aimed at certain sections who do nothing but pull our club down regardless, the season has not started yet,let us see how it develops,if it goes wrong,I'll shout doom until then I just want to support our club.
We need a massive improvement Saturday,we should not be beaten by the the gills. However Cardiff,Derby,Brighton have been nocked out tonight. Alarming first competitive game, all the talk by the manager, and players, very poor indeed.
'until then I just want to support our club' And me - weren't we among the few who bothered to go down tonight. BUT - that was very worrying tonight.
We were down to the bare bones tonight but I remember being one of the 4/5000 that was there when we were 92nd in the league, now that was what I called worrying..
I wasn't predicting doom and gloom in the previous thread but I am pissed that once again we have crashed out of the cup to a run of the mill div 4 team. It also upsets me to think that some of them probably just went through the motions tonight. I hope it's a valuable lesson out of the way with before the serious stuff starts on Saturday. I still stand by my comment that I will be furious if we dish up the same rubbish as last season. I'm getting married in 18 months and could have forgone my season ticket and put it towards the wedding, I hope I haven't made the wrong decision to renew. We are in a better position than this time last year but if our players think tonights performed back to League One. Well done to Gillingham they played well but if they played their best and we play our best we will beat them. There is a reason why we are 2 leagues above them. So come on lads wear that red shirt with pride every time you pull it on and play like your life depends on it. As long as the players give 100% I'm happy and we ishould able and a step back in the right direction.
come on guys, should really analyse the situation after 5/6 league games not before a ball been kicked in a league game
We always lose to League 2 teams in the cup and that pisses me off But i'm not going to be one of those that will say we're getting relegated because of tonight
Some balanced views on here tonight which is good to see. One result does not mean we are going to struggle the entire campaign and I, for one, am convinced that we have a good manager now who may well turn out to be a great manager. However, it is an alarming trend that we get turned over by lower league opposition seemingly every year. This means that we are immediately under pressure both on the field and also financially as a cup run of any sort would bring in much needed revenue. Let's hope that Del does the necessary in the changing room and on the training pitch the rest of this week and we get a result at Forest. Keep the faith my red friends..........
the most interesting thing about tonight other than losing by 2, 3, 4, 5 goals it can only get better. Freindly games have rarely been pointers for any team. NOW our next 10 games are important I would like to see a minimum of 13 points on the board by then! With form figures of w 3 d 4 L 3 f 13 goals a 8 goals. And before you comment negatively just look at the 10 games! COME ON YOU REDDDDDdddddddZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
