I agree with the most part Bozz and the bits I don't agree with (they may not take dividends directly but they are still in it for big fat profits) we have discussed before and aren't for this thread. I hope we don't sell either Agger or Mandy to fund other player purchases. It is however worthy of discussion when some of the statements from our end are basically encouraging bids where it would be easy enough to just say absolutely nothing of the sort. Surely with the love we all have for the club it is inevitable some of these statements (and I do try to comment mainly on direct quotes not just speculation) are going to lead to speculation.
Spot on yourself Not only does Agger distribute the ball best out of our back 4, but most attacks will end up starting through him. Our defence often ends up needlessly passing amongst themselves as none of them are very good at spotting open players - until Agger gets it. Then we see him run forwards and usually pass to the mid or even a long ball if he sees a good opening. It's not only our defence that his sale would weaken, it's our attack and our link up between defence, mid, and attack.
Out of all the players I've seen in Liverpools defence over the years, only Alan Hansen could turn defence into attack quicker than Daniel Agger. He's a midfielders worst nightmare, the only thing they can do is chop him down and that results in a free-kick and a booking. The further up the pitch he gets, and the further up the pitch the challenge comes in, its dangerous for the opposition. What I liked last thursday was the understanding between Agger and Shelvey. He's so important to how we play. I not for any money would sell him.
This. As much as City want him, I'd keep him, it don't matter if he plays every game, half the season or just one game, his OUR player, LIVERPOOL FC.
Really sorry i think you are very wrong on the torres thing, he is one of the few who i believe we have treated abysmally, if you are asking me to believe that right on the deadline day torres thought sod this i am off and that lfc thought right welll we will have carroll then you are having a laugh these things take time to plan, no problems with it as we got 50 million which was a fair price and i believe will prove to be a good buy as will carroll if given time. Think we may be heading same way with agger. It is a case of both clubs want the deal and how do they sell it to the fans. Remember it was henry who told the fans that basically the plans were already in place, this was not a contingency it was a plan, like i say not mad about it but felt torres was harshly treated by us and wish him all the best (apart from against us)
I have to disagree with this post entirely. Fernando Torres held Liverpool at gun-point in the same way Michael Owen did in 2004. Torres like Michael Owen did, left it until the last minute to spit the dummy. Raul Mereiles did the same last summer. If any players was harshly treated it was Xabi Alonso and Robbie Keane. Due to Rafa having to borrow from Peter to pay Paul under Hicks and Gillett, he unintentionally upset Xabi Alonso by stating he wanted to sell him to finance a deal for Gareth Barry. However if you remember correctly, Rafa wanted Xabi and Gareth Barry to play in the same side. This all fell on top of Robbie Keane who Rafa felt would only benefit the side which contained Gareth Barry. This led Xabi leaving in the summer of 2009. I don't think for one minute, that Rafa ever intended upsetting Xabi Alonso, but he ended up doing so because he had one hand tied behind his back. The same thing in my opinion applies to Robbie Keane.
You can't BUY this kind of loyalty exactly why we shouldn't even consider bids for him. Simple statement would have sufficed...Agger is NOT for sale. How hard can it be? Well said Danny boy.
You can't but loyalty combined with the talent of Agger, his attitude makes him the most valuable center back in the world imo.
Just a thought - maybe BR has been doing these things to keep our players in the media (after obviously telling said players they aren't going anywhere) so we can just go behind the scenes and sort out OUR targets. Would be genius if true and we get someone decent who we haven't even been linked with
Twitter rumours now circulating that we have offered Agger a new 4 year deal - This is twitter though
