It would appear that virtually every single so called football expert in the media is busy predicting saints are going straight back down this season. These predictions written by the same insightful football know-alls that predicted Nottingham Forest to win the Championship last season (The Telegraph) or Leicester (The Guardian) as just a couple of examples. They constantly get things wrong yet they never actually make a point of that or even acknowledge their predictions have turned out to be massively wrong. I cant wait for saints to prove them all wrong again this season, they clealry dont appreciate just what their dealing with down in Hampshire. But also, I think to spice things up the 'experts' should promise to resign if they get things spectacularly wrong again this season.
Went on to a similar article on Yahoo and was pleasantly surprised to find we weren't on their list of relegation fodder.
I'm not too fussed about the predictions, if anything it may cause other clubs/fans to underestimate us.
I presume that the same was predicted of Norwich and Swansea last season and QPR something similar to West Ham this season in terms of predictions. Like I said, doesn't mean much.. its just that every media outlet appears to be doing their predictions at the moment.
Correction: they clearly don't appreciate Hampshire, in the eyes of the football media we barely exist. Football is all about the Midlands, the North and London, there's no such thing as football outside of these areas! (And that's not just applicable for football)
Why are people offended at this? Let's be reasonable, there's a very high possibility of us going down. I personally don't think we will, I think we'll finish 16th or 17th but I really wouldn't be surprised if we got relegated, so why does everyone get offended when people predict us to go down?
Football pundits, experts etc are generally clueless or biased. Gary Neville is one of the only ones I bother to listen to.
It hurts to see us widely predicted to be thr worst team this year, but on paper you can see their point. Our bench hardly inspires fear. Wouldn't be surprised if we were relegated, anything above that and i'll be getting lashed in the King Alfred in celebration.
I like the fact that almost everyone is expecting us to relegated because I think come May we´ll have proved a lot of people wrong.
yep I think we're going to prove a lot of people wrong. What really annoys me is that they never hold their hands up and acknowledge when their totally wrong. Also it doesnt help us in the transfer market to attract decent players.
To be honest I am only 60% sure that we will stay up and that will be in 16th 17th, the rest of my thinks we will go down. It's hardly surprising when there are probably 15 16 teams minimum that are stronger than us on paper.
There are a number of teams who could go down (i'd say as many as 10 or 12), we are certainly one of them. All the experts are doing is giving their honest opinion, and I don't think anybody in the history of football had ever gotten one of these prediction things right. I mean, did anybody seriously expect all the three promoted sides to stay up last year? If I'm honest I expected both Swansea and Norwich to go straight back from whence they came, and thought QPR would do the best of them all. All these predictions are for is filling up newspaper space post olympics, pre-football in a bloody quiet transfer window. I think even the people who make the predictions don't EXPECT to get much right.
West Brom are better than us and we are at best on par with Swansea and Norwich, we also finished behind reading and failed to beat them last season. Wigan are the only team who are on paper miles weaker than us and that's been said ever since they entered the premiership years ago.
