Has it now had the final nail in it's coffin? We've had games being played over the last 3 days and a big fixture list tonight, and there's been barely a mention of it in the football world. We're in the draw for the second round tomorrow. I hope the coverage picks up when the prem teams join in because I love both the cup competitions in this country. I think it offers an excitement you only get towards the end of the league if you're going for the title or battling to stay up...
Nothing outside the Premier League gets much attention and most consider the League Cup a joke tournament until the Quarter Finals and there is a chance of going all the way. Don't be surprised if we are shafted by a League One or Two side...
If this wasn't an Olympic Year, the cup would have received greater coverage. If it had not been a HOME Olympic Year, even more so. All things are relative, my son...
Guess you're right. Still sad though, always love a cup game, both playing and watching. Well, with one exception, when I paid 15 quid to us v Rochdale last year. That was when warlock lost me.....
We still have a few weeks of constant reruns of Olympic "moments" with every commenator/Presenter/Pundit putting together their own showreal. (That means editing the ones they made BEFORE the games ... removing "Rebecca Addlington wins gold again" and replacing it with "Peter Wilson wins gold in the shooting.")
Really hope that does not happen! We are long over due a cup run and this is a better chance for us thna we've had for many a year.
Plus this season should be midtable obscurity for you as far as the League goes, so it's not like you need to prioritise it and play your reserves in the Cup or anything.
I think it's a good idea to play the first round on the weekend before the season proper. Gives you a competitive game before the league starts, bigger crowd than midweek, reduces early fixture congestion- everyone's a winner.
Hard to say. Last season we had Macclesfield at home, this season we had Rotherham at home on Saturday. The attendance was 20% higher, but those that went said there were less of us and it was down to them bringing loads. Rotherham is obviously a bit closer to us and it was a new ground for their fans, where as we'd played Macc in the League when we first moved.
Normal service resumed - the missus has Ipswich v Bristol Rovers (our old feeder club) on the radio. Heaven help me but it officially means the season has started!!!!
