You are clueless. Hammond is not the most technically gifted player ever, but he does his job well, and is horrifically underrated by Saints fans. He should start against City.

That to be quite frank is a ****ing joke. Granted, he's not the most technically gifted player in the squad but he is effective at what he does.

This! Although I don't think he should start, he should at least be on the bench should he be needed

You are clueless mate. I am embarrassed for you. You don't simply rock up against Man City with Lallana, Rodriguez, Guly and Lambert on the same field. Frankly I will be expecting us to get an absolute walloping if they all start. Players like Hammond are rare. Players that run for the team all game and give it their all for the shirt. Most football players don't care about putting much of an effort it, they care more about their bank balance and remaining injury free. TBH I think many Saints fans don't appreciate his attitude at all which is a big shame. If all our players worked as hard as him we would be a decent side rather than an average one at this level.

Everyone appreciates his attitude, passion, drive etc (continue inputting generic cliches here if you want). He's still poor technically, a long way behind our other CMs in the way of ability.

He is probably our best ball-winning midfielder.

Why? I'd play myself over Lallana in that side. He is lightweight and doesn't have the legs to chase the ball all game. I do. The midfield's job in a game like this is practically the same as the defence. Same can be said for Guly and Rodriguez. Don't even get me started on Lambert and Davis who has only just returned from injury. Hammond has the legs and attitude to do it.

Man city's catalyst for me is Yaya Toure. I think we need a few centre midfielders on the pitch to stop him from playing. Not forgetting David Silva who although is usually deployed on the wing, cuts into the middle a lot. This should decrease the amount of service the strikers get-for me the only way to try and stop Tevez and Aguero is to have 5 at the back and would basically mean parking the bus and we will get smashed if we approach the game in that manner, not forgetting the third cb will be Seaborne or someone who's only just recently joined.

I don't want Lambert up front on his own because we need him in midfield to hold up the ball and release others, not forgetting he'll have two cbs on him. Sharp will be better as a lone striker because he will be to poach on to the ball and he will be given more space than Lambert because he isn't our catalyst.

We do need battlers on the pitch so I would be tempted to start Hammond along with the fact that Cork is injured and we'll need to do the simple passes instead of the fancy stuff because we will be punished. Having no wingers will allow our full backs the freedom to attack and also defend when we need to.

My Squad (based on current team):
    Davis
    Clyne Fonte Hooiveld Fox
    Hammond Schneiderlin Davis (c)
    Lambert Lallana
    Sharp

Subs: Gazzaniga, Richardson, Seaborne, Chaplow, Puncheon, Guly, Rodriguez (I would swap Guly with Lee if he was fit).

In a game like this all that will matter is his good qualities. I wouldn't play him in games I expect us to try and dominate or take the opponent toe to toe.

That's my prediction geezer. I can see us getting destroyed. I'm genuinely not a negative fan. In fact I'm optimistic. I have predicted we would finish 9th this year and I predicted we would win the league last year long before the season started.

We're just not equipped to deal with Man City.

The same goes to Chaplow- Works hard but poor technically. Well, I think he works hard to compensate his lack of abillity. He´s not a bad footballer but not up to the standard of the rest. I do appreciate players who work hard but in the prem I´m not sure if that´s going to be enough to get you a starting place.

    Hammond is underrated.

The jobs he does for ye team always seem to go unnoticed.

Just because he isn't 20/21 years old...

If we are not equipped to deal with City and get beat 7-0 then I don´t think predicting that we finish 9th in the league is very logical.

There is no doubting Hammond's commitment, but that doesn't make him a premier league midfielder. He can only play the way he's facing because it takes a tug to turn him round. I think he has been good for Saints in the same way and at the same level as Harding.. Says it all really...

The lower leagues are filled with players like Hammond who run around for 90 minutes. The Premier League is full with technically sound players. Wonder if there's any reason for that?
