    You are probably right there,PGF.

The bastard would never have gone anywhere near Stratford if it hadn't been for the games. Unclean people live there, you know?

The reason they had a four lap marathon (and didn't finish in the Olympic Stadium) was that they would have to go through Tower Hamlets, which would have cast London in "a bad light"

...no wonder Swansea was high in the 'grumpiest people in Britain' poll. <laugh>

I'm with valley on this. Population control? Come on. Is football about that too?

It's a wonder that sport can have such a unifying effect and for me it's been fantastic to see Britain come together in this way. I suspect that's what bugs Mabon so much. I bet he wouldn't have the same view if it was a Welsh team competing instead of GB. Tell Jade Jones that all her hard work is worthless and the gold medal she won means nothing.

A miserable, shameful view in my opinion.

Anything that takes people's minds off REAL issues,be it the olympics, world cups, etc.,is manna from heaven for this and any other government.
I do not demean any individual achievement, just question why all the fuss, and the "shameful" waste of money. Money that could be put to far better use.
    Clearly,not many people get that,or perhaps simply don't care about pensioners,school leavers,health care,etc.,etc.

I guess we'll just have to beg to differ.

Fair enough, vetch but I think you're actually falling into the Establishment's trap by saying we shouldn't spend public money on sporting events.

Let's all work ourselves to death until we're nearly 70, pay ridiculous amounts of tax, have as little fun as possible and then have the good grace to die as soon as you can after retirement so as to not be a burden to the State.

Bloody hell now you've got me at it. <laugh>

He was a tough fish to land,Mabon.
I'll bear the scars,(bravely), for sometime to come.
Maybe I'll pop into Poundland, and buy myself a medal.
    On expenses,of course.
    What do you think?

    ...

Shouldn't it be the Patriotic People's Front ? Just a thought.

Apparently the spice girls performance was delayed because Victoria Beckham got mistaken for a javelin and was locked in the equipment cupboard.

<ok> They are now trying to tell us they only cost £9 Billion when the real cost was nearer £12 Billion.

Agree there Dai, these are the special ones, not the pampered, over hyped ones that have just finished.

During the cyclong road race there was a young chap who was`nt smiling & enjoying himself. The police jumped on him & arrested him, it was only later they were told he had Cerebral Palsy, so could`nt always give a "happy" face. The police later apologised, says something eh?

On another slant, does anyone know how many places that have held the olympics have not lost money?

talking about victoria beckham she is the reason they had 4 separate taxi's. she did not want to perform and it was david that persuaded her but she did not want to be with the others.....so the story goes...<laugh>

Nobody is saying the Olympics cost £9bn though, it's around £13bn

I disagree about the overhyped stuff, very few athletes have a pampered life, they have worked extremely hard to achieve what they have.

I havent heard of that, care to link to the story ?

Atlanta made money, Sydney lost money as did Athens, Beijing lost a huge amount of money, but as the games cost them £40bn there is no surprise. London is likely to break even or make a profit as there is a huge amount of legacy that is going happen in the next few years.

they reckon its made money. most were volunteers doing the opening and closing ceremonies plus all the acts performed for free so i would believe that we have made a profit.....
