Kinda goes without saying doesn't it. HJ and ML will be a good and interesting combination. I'm sure ML will find talent at value and so far his acquisitions have been bang on the money.
Why stop spending wisely now , for all intents & purposes the sale of Rodgers & Allen has financed all transfers since we won promotion . I feel are team , starting out this season , is every bit as good as last seasons team . We must have one hell of a reserve fund as new financial rules grow near also .
This is true, Breezy. I think the trend of buying low and selling (when we have to) high. Looks as if the big clubs are still splashing silly cash and we can only benefit from that.
I don't want us to over spend on anyone but we need defenders by the looks of it. As ML was a forward i expect the way we are playing to suit Danny's style better than BR and i think he will get at least 15+ goals for us....but we are leaking goals and vorm has let in more goals in three games abet pre-season than he did in a run of 10 games. Its no good Danny putting the ball in the net if we are poor at the back. we need to buy quality defenders in the £5-6 million bracket to shore up our defense better than they are doing......also another good midfielder and a quality striker to share with Danny the striker role....We can afford to spend £20 million on 4 players surely.....
Last season according to you he couldn't hit a barn door ,now he's going to get 15 + , nothing has changed as far as I can see with his positioning etc ,so how come a change in attitude towards him. I agree with more quality cover though . Everyone to date has said how good Stuttgart were on Saturday and played our way better than we could in the first half and they deserved their lead . Blackpool's goals came from 1 individual error and a debateable penalty so I wouldn't say we're poor at the back just a little bit looser tactically overall
bony are you an idiot or what. cant you read??? He was not up to standard playing the roll he was under BR but as he is playing more forward under ML then he is finding the net more.....god get a grip man if you cant understand different styles of football then dont comment as you are making yourself look silly....Last season Danny was running around like a headless chicken playing more in our own half than the opposition. What i have seen is ML has tweaked his style and made him play more forward and it seams to be paying off. what is letting us down this time is the cracks in midfield and defence and that needs to be addressed. we have the funds so there is no excuse and Im sure ML is working on it....How many times did i say its not Danny's fault last season? I said many times that he would make a good midfielder the way he was playing and that was BR's fault. So far abet pre-season i am very happy with what ML has done with Danny. his positioning is much better for the type of striker he is....
Will you PLEASE stop abusing posters Dai. We've had a lot of **** on here lately and you have learned precisely nothing. Stop!
Lads, COME ON! Enough is enough!! Carry on like this and we won't have a forum worth the name. Dai, sorry, mate, you were out of order this time. You might be frustrated that Bony missed your point but that is no excuse for calling him an idiot. Obviously, he is not. As it happens, you made a valid point about Danny, one that I made a few days ago, actually, so I suppose I would agree with you. Danny was isolated in his role up front under Rodgers, which was when you were berating him on a regular basis. Laudrup now seems to be playing him as a conventional striker playing off the last shoulder and doing a lot less running around closing down. This was how Danny played at Watford and he delivered the goals. Mind you, I still think he did a great job for us last season getting 14 in all competitions and he wasn't able to boost his tally with penalties, as Holt did at Norwich for instance. The intangible bonus for us was that his work helped keep our goals conceded down: and it is noticeable that Norwich conceded far more than us, maybe because Holt didn't put in the defensive shift that Danny did. Fair play, you picked up on the change in Danny's role and have revised your opinion accordingly. Nothing wrong with that but it would help the board if you were not quite so acerbic with your remarks when you think someone disagrees with you or haven't grasped your point. Hope you don't mind me commenting on this but we are striving to keep personal remarks away from this forum because for some time it's been a civil war on here when most of us just want to debate football.
Who said...? "we need if we are playing the lone striker a 20+ goal player. failure to do that then relegation is an almost certainty in our second season......Luckly laudrup is on the same wave length as me in recognising we will need goals this time and im afraid danny is nowhere good enough on his own. he has proved it....i rest my case..... " and "Its as plain as your nose on your face that danny is not the right player for us, he cant do it, he cant finish to a high standard and i agree with two managers and countless pundits that say we need a better striker and finisher....." and "nice to see some recognizing the fact that we need better than danny's ability...well done.. if it was me i would move danny to midfield where he would be better suited....." and "What!!! we cant afford a better striker. we paid £3.5 for danny and he has not lived up to expectations, his finishing is poor so much so sinclair would rather go on his own for goal than pass to him, how many time have fans on here keep banging on that danny never got no service???? Have you ever questioned why??? could it be because nobody trusted his finishing ability.....could very well be the reason. If we cant afford better than danny then why could we afford double what danny cost us for siggs.....so dont make the excuse we cant afford a better striker because we can and we will. we will have to if we are going to survive as danny dont have the lone striker ability as its there for everyone to see. A 20+ striker is the top of the shopping list for laudrup if we are going to play one up front.... " and "where 15 barren games, if it was not for siggs early goals and vorms saves that made him player of the season then what danny contributed would have sent us straight back to the championship. he is not the striker we need playing one up front. he dont score enough and his finishing is one of the worst in the premiership." Just saying...
yet another that missed the point i was making...where are my posts where i said its not danny's fault???? where is my posts that said rodgers is playing him all wrong and he would make a good midfielder. trolling through my old posts picking out comments of convenience is beyond belief.....Its lucky most on here know what i was on about and ivor got it spot on.....So scfc explain your point or did you really not understand what i was saying..????
I maybe many many things in life but an idiot I'm not , neither am I abusive ,I leave that to others .
With £23 or near enough million from the sale of Brendan and Joe then we have transfer money that was not counted towards what the original transfer budget was so i cant see any reason why we cant spend half of the money to buy some quality players......the major concern for me is our defence if we lose key players like ash( assuming he will still be with us) and Taylor through injury....I cant think of any excuses that the board can use not to spend our windfall as it was not counted in the original budget. Id hate to see us fall short when we have extra millions to play with and we have not used some of it.....
Here's a good reason not to spend Dai ... the manager thinks were good with our value buys & doesn't want to rock the boat buy overspending on players that might sink it . Most buys now will come after Christmas ... one defender maybe before this window closes maybe . Buying for the sake of buying , because we have the money to , doesn't exist in the SCFC dictionary .
It may be to late in the january sales though if we fall behind the pack because we dont have enough quality cover should we lose key players through injury....We have enough spare cash now to be certain that wont happen, Its better to be prepared than sorry ....
Has anybody got any feedback about the progress of Situ and Obeng? I had great hopes of those two pushing for at least a bench place this season and I hope they haven't fallen out of favour. I think young Rory should go out on loan to get some playing time/experience under his belt and I wonder how Orlandi is going to fare? From what I've seen so far, I would much prefer Orlandi (playing as he did during his cameo appearances last season) to De Guzman. Not to say that De G won't come good but I really think that Orlandi could be a solid squad asset.
Agree Ivor, I've always liked Orlandi but he keeps getting niggling injuries which frustrates his progress, and me too. Hope this season he keeps fit and plays to his ability. de Guzman hasn't hit the ground running but will be OK when he finds his feet. Not sure where he fits in at this point. I see him as a ACM but Michu has that spot. ML knows him and hopefully see's him as a work in progress. When he settles he'll be another asset for us, but currently I'd play Orlandi over him on the Wing or in mid-field.
