Over the course of a season we hear a lot of ,ââ¬ÂThis could be a defining gameââ¬Â,ââ¬ÂThis is the biggest game of the seasonââ¬Â. Well on Saturday it is, by far the biggest. The reason I keep banging on about getting behind Bruce and the team, getting a positive vibes going, is because we need to, regardless of what the future holds for Bruce and the players. Get it right on Saturday and it doesnââ¬â¢t mean Bruce is off the hook or that the present crop of players are off the hook, I think Short will be well aware of how sour the season has turned. What getting it right does is give Short, Quinn and the club better options. Get it right and it takes pressure off so that we can go into the remaining games with confidence and move back up the table, be a far more attractive propersition for managers and players. Get it wrong and the pressure becomes almost unbearable going into the Fulham game and relegation becomes a real possibility. Yes but we can then sack Bruce I hear you cry, and attract who? Yes we will attract someone, someone who will have less than 5 days to get it right for Fulham. Someone recruited to save us from the drop. Someone brought in to fire fight. Is it not a better sell to bring a manage in to take a mid table premier team to the next level, without panic and with time to look at the club, the squad and then decide what needs doing. The future, less than 6 days away, is the time to talk about what next. The present, the next 5 days is all about positive focused and committed thoughts and actions designed to do all we can to help inspire the team to a win on Saturday, IMHO.
Everything you've said is right Syd but like against West Brom i think you will see a very nervous performance from our lads. What we really need is an early goal to settle the nerves and the crowd, then if we can relax and play the way we know we can then we'll romp the game but, at the minute that is a very big "IF".
Syd, if i were to give you marks for effort I would have to give 10/10 mate, one of you best efforts to date. Just been browsing the BBC sport pages, in particular the remaining fixtures and in think that if we can get a win on Saturday (which i fully expect) that will set us up for a good run and 50 points is still easily achievable. All our remaining games are winnable, Bolton being the only dodgy game IMO, West Ham will depend how they stand come the final day but i think their fate will be decided by then and they won't be fighting for points. Top Ten is still has to be our goal.
Much as I want Bruce gone, I honestly can't see the sense of doing it now either. Which reputable manager is going to take it until the relegation issue is settled? I think mid-table is a gonna, however. We'll probably survive, but survivors is all we'll be this term. There's a lot right about the club, though. It has the reputation of being a well-run club, and I don't think Quinn would have a problem recruiting someone good in summer. In fact, when you look at the list of EPL chairmen, Quinn himself is a selling point.
the future starts next sunday... the future starts today, on that training ground, set pieces, come on lads sort out some set pieces, shooting practise is a must, reckon a practise match of full team v the reserve team would be interesting, the future start here, so practise different things, and give us all something to be happy about on sunday. it's wigan ffs, not man u.
Agree with most points there and still think if we play the same as Saturday and get that little stroke of luck we will win the next 2 home games and possibly pick up a couple of points away. Don't think we'll get anywhere near 50 points more like 46 to 48 but, it's still a good finish probably 11th possibly 10th.
The way im thinking there's no "IF's" anymore, we will get beat most likely N,Zogbia will come back to haunt us.........................................
the part about early goal? think that would do quite nicely. nerves and all. don't like thinking about conceding early. not sure we'd be up to the task. flip side and all.
early flukes only seem to go against us not for us, Cess Fabrigass Bardo boots it and hits his leg for a goal, the free kick fiasco at pool, WBA against the mig, the list goes on, but luck for us is only the beach ball that i can remember.
I agree with what you say Cypruss....the one thing I think we need, which has been lacking in the last couple of home games is a loud vocal backing from the crowd.Lately its been too quiet at the home games for me,lets all SCREAM the lads to victory on Saturday!
