In thirty odd years of supporting QPR I would say Adel is the most skilful player I have seen play for us. But who would you say was the most skillful before him. I would go for a personal favourite of mine. John Byrne. Who is now in fact a podiatrist. Bonus points for recording what they are doing now.
Sinclair would be up there for me - a proper out and out flying winger. We had a few during the darker days who had some skill but never really grew into anything and sadly faded - the likes of Doudou, Paquette and even Vine (pre-injury) had a ball control and agility that looked threatening but never amounted to anything. Trev gets my vote anyway.
When i was growing up as a kid i loved watching Roy Wegerle such a skillfull player. He is a professional golfer now
Sinclair is one of my favourite QPR player does anyone remember his goal against man city? there goalkeeper kick the ball to the halfway line and Sinclair volleyed in straight into the back of net amazing goal!
Sinclair's living in Dubai I believe, and doing something not entirely related to Gymnastics or polar exploration. Slight disagreement with the OP - I think that Taarabt has the potential to be our most skillful player, but needs to show it far more before he gets the plaudits from me. For historic players, it's difficult to say. David Seaman was the best keeper we've had for many a year. Sir Les was a goal machine, with pace, strength, and the ability to finish from anywhere. Wegerle could be amazing, as could Trevor Francis. Sinclair was always better than his rep portrayed, and he showed this in the 2002 world cup when he came on for Hargreaves (after flying out to Japan, being told he's not needed, flying home, only to land and hear that because of injuries they wanted him to fly straight back again) and the team fortunes turned around. And of course, Stan was a legend. However, my personal favorite? Tony Currie. He's still the one player that, if we could have him at his peak, would walk into the side. Now, he's Footall In The Community co-ordinator at Sheffield United, a job he has had for the past 24 years.
In terms of unique ball skill and wizardary I doubt if anyone can come up with a better player in the premiership... the other sides of his game of course have to improve but I have seen played and watched a lot of football and Adel is by far the most skilful since Zidane ... prior to that and we are talking of course: TS RW RM SB TC but above them all has to be Dave Thomas ... running with the ball picking out a pass or cross ... he was and will always be my favourite player
Zidane totally different player to Taarabt. The only trick that Zidane did was the Marseille turn (aka Maradonna spin), maybe the odd step over. Taarabt is full of tricks, like a playground player. Zidane had an unbeleivable all round game, never ever gave the ball away and could always set up a chance with a great pass. Taarabt is more comparible to Ronaldhino, but is still a way off both these players. A couple of good seasons could close that gap though! Taarabt is my favourite ever QPR player for the flair and tricks. Not many players in the league bring any flair anymore, its all about passing relentlessly. He does something different, and so entertains. Loads of love for all the other players mentioned though...
Difficult to really say one player, we've had some greats through my 45 or so years. Stan, on his day, was simply magical. It was like the ball was tied to that left foot of his and opponents would be made to look clueless. Rodney was a box of tricks as well and these guys played in such a cavalier manner with the swagger that the great players always have. Currie and Wegerle were cut from the same mould, entertainers who managers these days perhaps wouldn't indulge, which is why Adel is walking a tightrope at the moment...
I scored one like that but it was from a place kick and the ball never touched the ground before it hit the net. However I doubt I could have scored that overhead if I tried 100 times.
Dave Thomas is before my time but I have heard his name a lot. What position did he play? How long was he at QPR and where did he go next?
5 years with us, then to Everton, Wolves, Vancouver Whitecaps, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth, before retiring in '84. He then became a PE teacher in a school in chichester, but has now retired. whilst with us, he won 8 caps for England.
I think Taarabt has the same vision as Zidane. Zidane was very rarely robbed of the ball and used to draw a load of fouls as Adel get wiser I am sure we will see better ball retention . Tarrabt running wild in the championship was the best for me and I saw a lot of zidane in him there ... He is on course to become the best without doubt IMO
You know, Lee Cook was pretty good to watch when he was at the top of his game. Sinclair was great, of course. Remember what we were calling Buzsacky when he turned up?
Sinclair was great and I rate his overhead as my favourite goal ever. However closest to Adel has to be wegerle. Roy had the tricks and would turn it on mesmerising opponents at times.
