Think tried to cram too much in, but at the end of the day it's the closing ceremony, they're never ever as good as the opening ceremonies and are given less budget to work with

    The **** talentless one, Liam.

The budget probably couldn't stretch to getting Noel.

Course not, with them in the same area the insurance for any damage done to the stadium would be astronomical

I'm sure the situation wasn't quite how he wanted it though.

Didn't want the Olympics but decided to enjoy it when it came. Glad I did and enjoyed most of it.

The time for facing reality is not today but the bills will become apparent soon.

I've been watching the Olympic ceremony and have just come back to this thread.
It makes even less sense than usual.

Well, I meant the thread- but it applies to the closing ceremony too.
See my last post on the "My last post" thread.

Yeah I can go back to being a miserable ****er now <ok>

I couldn't help but think the closing ceremony should have had a bit more Britishness to it....a few bottle fights, bankers pouring real money into the flame, beggars harrassing the crowd, massive pot holes for that Rolls Royce to get stuck in, some masked rioters robbing old people and a few pissed up Stella drinkers pissing on the torch to extinguish the flame <ok> who couldn't relate to that??

What pishes me off though is that the greedy fkn pro footballers tenis players and basketball players, millionaires, get to steal the olympics from amatuers, its fkn sickening and why I have not watched since Korea some events apart. Athletes have a real struggle to get sponsorship and have to train hard and then may not even qualify, footballers just get picked to go when they are already earning a shed load of money, it is just disgraceful.

China is running a state organised doping program and practically steals children away from their parents to train as athletes. But that's OK cos half the business world depends on their economy and slave labour. < Mozilla is telling me Labour is wrong and Labor is right, fkn american pig latin

I agree about the sports involved hence why I didn't pay attention to the footy or tennis (apart from watching JA for team GB and the tennis final) and it gets worse next time with bloody Golf being included as well. However you ask those sports such as Judo (as an example) what impact these games will have on their participation and you'll find it could well be a massive lifeline to them...more participants will mean survival. Plus I'm not sure athletics is even entirely amateur anymore but for those athletes who have struggled for sponsorship over the years their chances of getting sposored now (or funded through lottery etc) will have surely increased.

As for the Chinese children...they'll either be ripped from their parents to be Olympic athletes...or they'll be ripped from their parents to work in sweatshops. Neither is right but one is probably better than the other.

Agreed, don't mind the womens football in there. They deserve their chance. Basketball, golf, tennis doesn't excite me as an olympic sport. Part of the great thing about the Olympics is that you genuinely feel pleased for the people taking part, and they're grateful to be there.

Ditto, the joy on one of the GB runners face when he won, I really felt for the guy, that is what it is all about, footballers will go, ah well we didnt win, and then go play their league CL and international football, all of which is more important to them anyways

The vast vast majority go to the sweatshops so the benefit overall is.. the very tiny few, and lets face it a lot fo them are upper-crust chinese anyway, most dont get the opportunity to see what they are good at.

A bit like a lot of our medallists were upper crust Brits I suppose <laugh>

Seriously though mate I'm not gonna defend the way the Chinese do things or pretend the IOC isn't as corrupt as most sporting organisations like FIFA or The Fungus Association...but all I know is I loved the whole occasion, the emotions of the athletes and the realisation that for once we have thrown a **** load of cash at something...and managed to not make a complete **** up of it <ok> is it value for money...maybe not...but would I rather we spent it on a massive sporting occasion than giving it to bankers or bombing some far away land to oblivion...yes I would.
