Been linked across the border to a 5mil move for the Celtic LB. Probably not much in this but if there is, I'm a bit concerned that we could end up spending a huge chunk of money and what could be the rest of our budget on a left back !
I have seen a fair bit of him and he was superb two seasons ago - best player in the SPL (I know that's not too high a bar to leap) and won their player of the year award. Had a serious injury last season and didn't look as sharp when he came back. That said he has plenty of pace, can defend and is an excellent overlapping attacking full-back who can cross a good ball. I would be happy to have him although £5m is a wee bit high.
Norwich don't pay £5M for full backs, for that sort of money we'd be looking at the forward line IMO. To be honest I'm getting just a little bit concerned about our form in front of goal and I don't care what anyone else thinks , we need major investment in a striker or "we're doomed !" please log in to view this image
Yeah, as I say I think its nonsense. CH does concern me about the front line cause one minute hes saying we've got enough strikers at the club (maybe to many) an hes not worried about the blanks in matches and then in other reports you see him saying he is concerned.
I think he is probably more reliant on the midfielders banging a few in, I reckon they will. But if we intend to play Holt on his own than Bob Snod, Pilks, Benno and Howson will all have to chip in. I say them 4 because I think at the moment they're first choice.
Of course you're entitled to your opinion, but I 'm quietly confident that we don't need a new striker before the season starts. GH has for the last few seasons, 'been slow out of the blocks' and it takes a few games before he starts finding the target. JV hasn't played that much in recent games and it could be that he isn't being risked before we travel to Craven Cottage (or worse, loaned out!!). I was at the match on Saturday and got the feeling that if we're going to play with one forward (yet according to the EDP, we played 4-4-2 ), then GH should not be that person!!! Just my views and I'm sure some will disagree.
I do think another forward will come in if Hughton and Chester find the right one who represents value for money. Which I think you can only really get abroad.
Apparently we are offering £5m AND Vaughan! Wtf?! This guy better be good if this is true! And,we better have another forward lined up as well! Im nervous!
Yes, saw the 'Vaughan carrot' article last night - really hope is just lazy journos making up stories to fill column inches!! I'm really hoping that Vaughan has a major part to play in our campaign to still be in the PL next season!!
Here it is again: http://www.setanta.com/ie/Articles/2012/08/14/Canaries-line-up-Celtic-defender/gnid-150725/? If this does turn out to be true, I really hop CH does have a striker lined up too !
A fortnight ago, Vaughan returned to fitness, started scoring goals and everything appeared to be hunky dory! Now, by all accounts, he's being shipped out as a makeweight for a Honduran defender!! How does that work, please
whilst I would be nervous to lose Vaughan without another striker coming in Izaguirre sounds like a top player and had he not been injured last season would be at a top club now, apparently last summer Man U made a bid, could be a bit of a coup if it happens.
I think this rumour is rubbish, we would never offer 5 mill for a left back, particularly from a Scottish club. If he is worth 5 mill, then I feel its unlikely we could do the wages.
Sometimes worth the risk regardless of their league however I do understand your reservations for a club with our budget. Rather spend it on Naughton.
