The Who saved an otherwise poor ending...
Out here in The Netherlands, we'd set up some Dj gear, have a party marathong of our own with Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Sander van Doorn, Afrojack and more to end it with a bang.

Turned on my TV this morning in shock that everything on it was ****e :(

Still, think Rio should be fairly spectacular, if you make it to any of the events because you're not still in bed from all the partying the night before <laugh>

What a fantastic advertisement for this country the games were. Lets face it, we ****ing nailed it for once! We've put on a great show, and better still our athletes have rocked up and done the business too. Farah, Ennis, Hoy etc all provided epic moments which will live long in Olympic history for not only British fans, but fans all over the world.

I thought the music was a bit up and down last night in general. There were good bits and bad bits. The Spice Girls showed why its not good to reform when you couldn't sing in the first place. I read a comment elsewhere on this forum which was bang on and made me laugh regarding Jessie J covering Queen. They said the earth moved..........it was Freddie Mercury turning in his grave. And also that she managed to do something the IRA tried for years to do. Kill Queen. <laugh> To be fair I am not modern musics biggest fan and all the current stuff, along with old stuff killed by modern artists I was gonna struggle to like. So I just put it down to me getting too fussy as I get older! I like Muse though and even though I'm not a massive Elbow fan, his voice live is fantastic and they are well suited to that kind of thing with their anthems.

The whole show was amazing again though, just like the opening ceremony. Those gymnasts who made the London Bus etc was just mind blowing. Doing the splits vertically while another stands on the foot that's in the air, I could feel the pain!!

I loved this Olympics and it will feel like there is a huge void now. I've loved getting on a nighttime and flicking through the different sports.

My moment of the games is probably a little different to everyone else though. Interview with Ben Ainslie after the Danish and Dutch teamed to cause him to lose ground in the sailing.

"It seriously annoyed me because I didn't hit it," said the 35-year-old. "I had to take the penalty turn but that really fired me up to get past them for the finish and it has certainly fired me up for tomorrow.

"I wasn't happy with what those guys did and I told them, but that's racing. I didn't hit the mark – I have a pretty good idea whether I hit the mark or not, so if that's the way those guys want to play it then fine.

"They were some cross words between me and Jonas at the end because he and the Dutch guy teamed up to claim I hit the mark when I didn't.

"They probably didn't want to fire me up for tomorrow. They made me angry, and they don't want to do that."

He then proceeded to warn them he was coming for them and overhauled what seemed an impossible gap to win gold. Absolute legend and his fighting talk actually made me emotional.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Olympics, a few minor hiccups at the start, poor commentating and no time splits in the cycling road race, the empty seats in many events.
Last night was impressive, I feel a little unpatriotic because I moaned about some of the acts who were chosen to perform last night, but on the whole a huge success.

I'm still not convinced football has a place in the Olympics, but that is my personal view, I know many people were disappointed that Beckham was not selected to play for team GB, I felt he should not, but on reflection, and watching how our team played, I'm having second thoughts, simply for the fact that Beckham really, really wanted to play.

Choosing the sports personality of the year will be difficult, I'd like to see a one for males and females, who knows it may help give exposure to the less popular sports.<ok>

Weirdly we have just been discussing this at work. Where do you start? Ainslie - greatest sailor in the history of the games. Farah - a double of ridiculous difficulty. Hoy - How many is it now? Ennis - Huge pressure on her young shoulders. Face of the games and still delivered. Murray - final at Wimbledon and bounces back at the same venue to beat the same opponent to a gold medal. Mcilroy - Another major in the face of adversity.

The one I think if I was pushed I'd give to would possibly be Bradley Wiggins. Nobody has really spoken about it, but I don't think people realise how difficult it is to win the Tour de France. Clean!

We have come to the conclusion it may well be a joint award of some description!

I agree too, football (and tennis for that matter) is not an Olympic sport
