That depends on Agger doesn't it? He goes then we have a real problem. I think Carra still has something to offer to the squad, but is not first choice anymore. Coates i'm worried about. He looks very shakey at times which will be punished against the best. This might change, but he's not there yet. Skrtel is a tank, and I think Kelly can play there. Without Agger we don't really have two quality, in their prime, cb's.
Carroll, Sterling and Hendo need to be playing with that first half squad, Hendo fighting with Allen for the spot and Carroll as backup to Borini. A lot of talk about how the tempo slowed down when Carroll came on, I feel as if this isn't his fault. When the players see Carroll they slow their tempo, change their style of passing etc. However this is silly as Carroll has shown in the past few months that a fast passing game is more beneficial to him than balls lumped in from the sides. Everyone is so convinced that he is a hoofball striker that they change their own style to hoofball... when in reality he scored from a low shot and a forwards pass. Dempsey would effectively replace Adam but why? We don't even need another player at that position. Buying a player because he's "decent" and "can do a job" is what got us into this mess in the first place. I don't see a spot for him other than to replace Gerrard and that is clearly not happening. From what i've seen we are ok in the CM position, forget Dempsey. We need to get an out and out striker to complete that front 3, someone like Tello.
If Dempsey were to be signed, he would be competing with Downing for a spot on the right side of the attack. Dempsey is more direct than Downing and scores more goals and it would mean that Liverpool would effectively play with 3 forwards up front rather than two forwards and a winger.
But lets be honest, even with Carroll in the team, it is bread and butter for prem defences to mop up crosses from the wing, you just don't see that many goals scored that way these days, especially from Liverpool. You need players that will run at the back 4, split them and make changes from around the box. Just like Sterling did today. These days defenders are all 6'4" and are great in the air. We need to get it in amongst their feet and make it much harder. Two scenarios for you, Carroll jumps for a ball, gets it, but a defender goes sprawling on the deck... free kick for the opposition. Suarez or Sterling charge into the box with the ball at their feet, tripped by a by defender.....penalty. It just doesn't make sense to be lobbing balls in from the wing in the modern game anymore.
I reckon Walcott is transfer target number 1. I didnt see the game. Hopefully I can find some highlights.
Brendan really is breaking the mould with his recent selections. The myth that all Irish men love Danny Boy! Rumour has it Pacheco and Wilson cant get a game.....
Haven't read the whole thread so if this has been brought up I apologise. It was a bit **** of Swansea to refuse permission for Allen to make his debut today imo. The deal is done it's not as if he's gonna rip up the contract and go back to them before the Premier League rubberstamp the paper work in the morning poor show on the part of the swans
didn't realise that was the reason he didn't get a run out, that is quite poor from the swans, but then again if he had got say a bad injury that had kept him out for the season could we have gone back on the contract? (not that we would, but maybe just insurance on their behalf)
