I'm now pretty damn scared of our first game of the season. They not only have quality all over the pitch, they are rampant! Hope you are watched sir Nige, because we need a performance & a half next weekend! UTS
We are not expected to win the Man City game...anything we get from the game (damage limitation or experience) is a bonus. I'm scared as well, but we have to play all teams twice. It's not necessarily our results against top teams that are the most important. Just don't want it to be worse than 3.1 or 3.0.
They just don't look rusty, I was hoping to catch them napping a bit, but they are awake, awake & raring to go! Still, exciting being back, just need to get the first game out the way without too much damage. Come on Friend, send off some City players!
It's better to play Man City and lose than to play someone Dagenham & Redbridge and win. 3-2 now. Don't panic. We'll have no expectation to win,Man City will, they will be playing at home.
Yeah I was hoping the same. But we still may yet, they were always going to be up for it in a game against a title rival who have splashed the cash this summer. Will they be as fired up playing a team that they are expected to thrash and have never heard of any of the players? I doubt it
Let me think. Champions start to defend their title at home against a promoted side. Yeah, they won't be up for that
If I heard correctly, Man City played a 3-4-1-2. I'd like to see Saints play that, but only once we get a new CB in which will probably be after the City game.
Looking on the brightside, 18 other teams are going to have to go through it too and after all, it is only 3 points we are playing for, not the complete season. I think our fans are overreacting a bit to the team's result yesterday, we have not suddenly become a poor side with a clueless manager. We will have to accept that there are certain games this season when we are likely to be outplayed, but the same can be said for two thirds of the Division also.
What we need to do is win the winnable games and the way to do that is to take our chances. We created a lot of chances for each goal we scored in the Championship. Not going to get so many chances this season. Also have to start scoring a few goals from outside the area.
I am not fearful but apprehensive with a dash of optimistic - is there such a thing as apprehensively optimistic? However, Nicola Cortese and Nigel Adkins, unlike previous regimes at the club, know what they are doing, know what is required and, again unlike said previous regimes, are ambitious. We will get dicked now and then but I don't think we'll end up doing that badly and that will be a base on which to build and cement our position.
