First off sorry about the other night, bit unlike me but ah well. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/series/the-secret-footballer follow @TSFguardian This is a tough one. My mate and I are thinking Kevin Davies, Emile heskey, Defoe. It is hard and everytime you think " Eureka!" something pops up and you are way off the mark. Good luck to all!
I have always thought Darren Bent, been a record signing, been relegated, has played against Valencia. Though I have not read enough of them.
could be anyone...it's nearly easier to say who it isn't...here's a quote from the article.. - "If you meet a footballer and he comes across as a rude, arrogant pr*ck, the chances are that he is simply trying not to give anything away. Either that, or you have bumped into Ashley Cole."..
Peter Crouch. Talks about his relegation with Southampton. Read it on another forum Note, could be wrong
Its a West Ham or Newcastle player who in recent years was relegated. MAybe he played for both? Lee Bowyer? Anyway he says he was relegated and the club thought it was too big to go down and paid high wages or something like that. Its a WHU or a NU or on the off chance a Leeds players... so Bowyer and he means all 3
I'm thinking Emile Heskey. Played for England in the 2002 World Cup (same time as Trev Sinclair). Would have been promoted into the Prem League for his first Club. Got a bit fat towards the end and still played, more than likely gets a lot of abuse. Record signing for Liverpool. Comes across as a bit shy and reserved in that article, much like Heskey is. Relegated with Birmingham. Defoe seems keen and hasn't really put on weight. Same with Bent, Bent seems to go out in public too...got into trouble for going shopping when Villa was playing last season. Kevin Davies didn't play for England till last year so he wouldn't know much about the England squad. Gotta be Heskey.
Heskey did get promoted with his first club(Leicester) I think it was 1997 under Martin O Neill. He did play in the 2002 world cup as he was in the squad in the qualifiers during the 2001-2002 season whilst at Liverpool. He joined Liverpool in January 2001. He has got relegated with Birmingham who he joined Liverpool from in 2004, he was the last player sold by Gerard Houllier.
I can't think who else it could be...Heskey pretty much fits every scenario. Lee Bowyer never really got fat and never shied away from a night out. Croach...get fat? He wishes!
Its not Lee Bowyer. If you remember correctly that in and around 2001 Bowyer and Woodgate were involved in that assault and affray thing. They were out of international reckoning whilst that court case was on-going. It has to be Heskey as Heskey played all the qualifiers including the defeat to Germany(Keegans last game when Didi Hamann scored the free-kick) and the 5-1 victory over Germany when he scored.
If its heskey and people found out their readership would vanish maybe **** knows to be honest. One of the first things they ever said was about pundits being despised due to criticising players and I cant imagine heskey ever had anything to complain about or disagree with when he was criticised, weekly
For all of the articles it could just be a number of players??? It's suggested that on some articles it is a goalkeeper...yet he also talks about scoring goals.
They say the person isn't black as in one of the articles he talks about some multi-racial upbrigning or some ****. Andy Johnson?
Michael Owen? What footballer would have the time? Surely going off the heskey descriptions it must be Owen? He fits the bill for everything.
Owen has never been relegated though has he? Or he certainly hasn't played for a team that was promoted to the prem.
Newcastle? Yeh suppose hes never been promoted to the prem, unless hes secretly signed for one of the newly promoted sides this season? damn, thought I had it
