The Downing one is correct, the Keane one is wrong. We signed him on a £3 million 6 month loan deal. We got back £16 million with £3 million to be paid back based on success, he didn't have any..we didn't get it.
However it says differently on the Manchester United biased http://www.transferleague.com. It says we got £12 million back.
The Torres one is £6.3 million too much, and Henderson cost £16 million and not £20 million.

Everythings biased towards man utd including your owners FSG and your captain Steven Gerrard <ok>

Also its quite clear that last night going off Lazarus' argument on the old EC that myself and Swarbs obliterated any weak point he tried to make. he could of made a much better argument like you guys had but his fell flat on its face by using forest as the comparison amongst others.

anyway its all just opinions so who cares, nobody has won the CL b2b and I think most would agree Barcelona of the last few years are one of if not the best team ever. So if they cant do it it tells you how bloody hard it is. <ok>

As for discussing Einstein and whoever, why on earth would we do that on a football forum? We were discussing football, nothing else.

Thats a discussion for another day but cling onto it <ok>

Btw he was talking about Forest not Liverpool.

Do you think Forest are a bigger club than United, in any form?

When Nottingham Forest were at the peak of their powers from 1978-1991, they were bigger than Manchester United, then again during that period there was about 10 teams bigger than Manchester United. Spurs, Arsenal and Everton to name a few were bigger than Manchester United.

I said are they not were they and no, Forest were a flash in the pan like so many clubs.

Its like saying at one time every clubs was bigger than every club. Nonsense <ok>

Big clubs are big clubs regardless, forest who bar those 10 years were a mediocre club. To suggest otherwise is just plain wrong. They did **** all before and after that period.

Sometimes I marvel at your simplicity. Why take everything so literally?
I wasn't suggesting that you discuss Einstein, merely that the comparisons you were making were as pointless as any other involving achievements made by different people in different periods under different circumstances.
Do you really have so much trouble with metaphors and analogies?

It was a rather poor one to be fair <ok>

Questioning discussing football on a football forum no matter what the subject probably isnt the smartest thing to do, had we been comparing the British Empire and the current US Superpower you would of had a point.

As it was we were talking about football, something extremely important for all our clubs infact. FFP. Clearly you have only seen the few posts based on Forest being a bigger club than United and the off shoot topic of the EC v CL. Both were insanely wrong but thats not the point, they were still football and if you read the whole thread stem from the initial FFP discussion and how in one persons mind it would mean small clubs would never be able to do a forest.

The rest were just really poor digs at United that made some people look stupid.

I wonder who else will give me sly digs from this board though, hmmm. Who could it be? <laugh>

They did have a hell of a lot more success than you did and during that period thats for sure. There was a period when Nottingham Forest were the only side in Europe who could stand toe to toe with Liverpool.
    Nottingham Forest.
    Title winners 1978.
    European Cup winners 1979,1980.
    League Cup winners 1978,1979,1989,1990.

    Manchester United.
    FA Cup 1983,1985,1990.

    Yep all well and good.

But ARE they better than United?

Come on you can say it, just because its been drilled into you than United are evil you can say when complete **** is complete ****.

I mean are Chelsea better than Liverpool, their record of recent years makes a mockery of yours. Of course I am only doing this as a sly and pathetic weak dig but its a well known fact in the rafa sense <ok>

Think some people need to realise the difference between a big club and a club with a better squad. Spurs fans for instance...Liverpool are obviously the bigger Club...last couple of seasons they had the better squad. Yet some of them were coming on here claiming that they were now a bigger club. But the whole "who has the most supporters or most trophies" is all just tribal neanderthal nonsense anyway.

The two biggest clubs in England regardless of who may be top at any time since the 60's has been Liverpool and United.

Arsenal come a fair way behind in 3rd.

City and Chelsea dont register in the top 10, their fans need to realise football started before 2003 and 2009 respectively ( 1992 was much further back <ok> <laugh> ) and Forest are not a big club.

To suggest otherwise makes you a cricket fan, and you have no place round here <ok>

Okay Manchester United are the bigger club, but Forest in that period of time were much more successful. That cannot be argued against. Manchester United at that time were the equivalent to modern day Spurs, a sleeping giant. Then again Spurs are still asleep.

I don't think it was a poor analogy- that's your opinion, and doesn't coincide with mine (your own example is equally valid imo).
I have read the whole thread, I didn't feel moved to comment on City because frankly I only care what they do on the pitch. I'll wait to see what happens when FFP is introduced because at the moment I haven't a clue what effect it will have.

The only worthwhile comparison between top English clubs is between Utd and Liverpool because no-one else comes close to the overall success of these two, but it's understandable that someone who doesn't support either of our clubs might want to bring another into the equation.
Ben Arfa (Lazarus) is a Newc and a frequent late night wum on our board. His comparison between Utd and Forest might well have been him pulling your plonker a little.

Oh, and there's no such thing as a "poor" dig at Utd.:)

The size of a Club can only really be judged by it's fanbase.

    Pots only measure success

    Cash only measures wealth
