Should be calmer for you now that you aren't a mod as well. Thought you were a great mod but can understand having to deal with all the nonsense. Not that I ever partake in it. <whistle>

That or fickle fans. ;) I personally think it has been a mix of both. Few footballers are completely consistent... Theo may be one of those who has longer hot and cold periods... Even mighty Gerrard has them...

but if the lad goes to a World Cup way before his time and isn't played... it's not his fault. If he scores a hattrick in one England match- and then doesn't the next- doesn't mean he needs his nuts ripped off and shoved down his throat.

I think the media has been very unfair to Walcott- praising him more than they should at the slightest promise- and then shredding him at the slightest disappointment. He's not as good as Messi- and shouldn't be expected to be... at the same time though he is a player that seems to give a lot- be very athletic- and prone to moments of brilliance. Even when he's not got scoring boots on- he worries defenders due to his pace- he is someone that needs to be watched.

Fully admit though- he has cold periods.

The thing for me with Walcott is this....so much of his game seems to be based around pace. I'm not sure his passing or final ball are good enough. He did however get a decent amount of assists last year to his credit (but how many of these are just simple pass to Van P who then rockets it in from 20 yards out I'm not sure).

The problem for me with buying players who's game is based mainly on pace is that the older they get the more the pace wears off and the more they have to adapt and improve other areas of their game to compensate. Does Theo have the ability to adapt in the future? I have my doubts that there is enough about the rest of his game to compensate for when his pace starts to fade. Now I appreciate that he's only 23 so this would be a long term concern rather than something that will happen straight away but as I presume he wouldn't be cheap i'd rather (if we were in the market for pure pace) we looked elsewhere for someone younger.

  9. Surely you don't think the vast majority of people are fickle...<whistle>

But people do not expect him to get a hat-trick every game, hell, people don't even expect him to score. Maybe an assist at a push but I would say I expect him to get involved and be an effective weapon for the team. Unfortunately, those once in a blue moon 'hat-trick' type games is all you get from Theo, IMO three games a season at most is not enough for a so-called top player. Of course, he is still young and should get better, but he is also very experienced now and should know better a lot of the time.

His pace is always of concern but it is the rest of his game that is hit and miss. The media do over hype him (what English player don't they?) but Sven taking him to an international tournament at 17 years old with only a hand full of appearances under his belt didn't help.

RVP put them in from ridiculous angles too, making Theo's stats look better than they should have been. My honest thoughts/opinion when watching Walcott cross a ball is "I could do better".

    Makes sense <ok>

Great to see. Goes to show that we are adapting well to BR's philosophy already, and getting the result with it! We've played two games with a squad closer to our likely 1st team and won both of them with ease. Got any similar stats on the Gomel game?

    Roy Hodgson.

But Hodgson made it clear that Terry has strong support from within the FA's own corridors of power and that will cause even more controversy about the hearing.
Hodgson said: "I'm hoping, and I make no secret of that, the case will take its course; that John, hopefully, will be freed, as he was freed in a court of law, and will carry on playing for England.
"That's my hope. What will happen, I have no idea.

The FA's 'trial' and punishment of Suarez will be seen as nothing more than 'racism' against a South American player if Englishman Terry gets a walkover after facing the same charge as Suarez.

Lets hope Gordon Taylor(who was outraged at Suarez's behavior)has the guts and the principles to speak up and slate those that are struggling to deal with the case of an English player accused of making a racist remark because of a hidden agenda.

This is a disgraceful comment from the England manager and one which the FA will not thank him for - he obviously feels he's in a strong position following the Euros? - John Terry has acted appallingly and gotten off with this via a very iffy defence from his legal team ... Lets hope the FA do the right thing and come down equally hard on John Terry as they did with Suarez . Time for Gordon Taylor to show us his nuts methinks ...

    What did you expect Page?

I don't know who would take any action. BUT, even before the hearing there is an academic argument to take the matter to the CAFS based upon a senior manager within the organisation charged with impartially judging the issue voicing that there is strong support for Terry within the corridors of that organisation.

There's no mileage in this for us. All we can do is give a rye smile whilst knowing that the corrupt will become even more corrupt.

Not sure if it is off-topic in the pub but got me tickets in for US x Jamaica WCQ in Columbus Ohio. I should be right in the middle, pretty good seats as well. Will try to get as many pics and vids up. Should be a cracking game and atmosphere.
