So Barton was quite right after all!

So a study has found Gareth Barry to be among the slowest of the outfield players in the league, pretty obvious i thought anyway.

Also puts Barton top of the fit list along with Raul Meireles with both covering an average of 8.1 miles per match

    http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/18042011/58/premier-league-proof-barry-really-slow.html

Bad news for Sunderland as it really seems they are a bunch of lazy gits as they are in the bottom 3 for average collective team distance covered

Barton is another class. Asked my mate why he think he shouldn't play for England he gave the normal response. Same guy think beckham should still play right wing.

This puts into perspective how fit footballers have to be. You wouldn't think they've ran 8.1 bloody miles would you? With all of the stop/starting, tactical manoeuvres and rough play, I'm not surprised it's mentally and physically draining.

Excellent by Barton 8.1 miles average is some feat and the fact Barry does the least by comparison proves his point.

No, Barry is among the slowest with a recorded top speed of just below 18 mph, but he is one of the longer runners. Hes up there at the top but still not above Barton

Yeah I read it after commenting, should have read it first, the point Barton made was about his lack of pace though, so he's still correct <ok>

I can run fine at the gym for a few km on the treadmill, but playing football is more demanding even though every now and again you get a bit of a breather. All the changes of pace, turning and changing direction quickly really **** you over. I always ache for about two days afterwards. Maybe cause I'm the Tiote of the team who marshalls the midfield and closes down every ball!
