I am not being a ****, If I was going to, i would have done this on the Sevco board.

I know this forum is not really the place to be discussing delicate topics with any real prospect of taking it anywhere but I am going to try.

I am not seeking to score points, I am merely asking a question about a sensitive topic. i am asking this earnestly.

I am posting this as a reaction to what another poster has posted. Not in a beely type way, it just appears contradictory to me and I do want to examine it in as sensible a fashion that we can. I don't want to ask it on the Sevco board as I fear they may not accept that I am being absolutely earnest.

    Ok, here goes.

On The Sevco board it seems that Rocket is absolutely obsessed with Torbett. The inference appears to be that we should be ashamed of how Celtic Football Club conducted themselves during and after these incidents. This being despite Torbett having no position at the club at all.

The same poster then posts a lest we forget post about 66 football fans who died at a match. We now know that the QC, Irvine Smith who conducted an inquiry into the Ibrox Disaster was absolutely scathing about how the club acted before and after the incident. Now I am not going to pretend that other clubs were somehow less negligent than Rangers when it comes to health and safety but this didn't happen at another club. it happened at Rangers.

To me, it looks like we should be ashamed of what our club did/didn't do when fully cognisant of somebody elses wrongdoing but they have no reason to be ashamed of their former club when they were fully cognisant of their own shortcomings. I accept that the facts of the matter are still not fully known as the report was never released but Rangers accepted culpability and only contested quantum.

It looks very much like the way Rangers fans behaved in this instance is emblematic of how they have behaved wherever there has been problems at the club. They sat on their hands and did **** all other than to lay the blame on something else. In that case bad luck. In more recent times the blame has been laid with Celtic ...........but never with the people who had control of their club.

i am not sure there is actually a point at the end of all of that other than to say it looks like the cap doffing servile Rangers fan is not just a new creation but has been the way of it for many many years. Logic is telling me that the team you support cannot dictate a servile nature but my eyes are telling me different.

I suppose the question I wanted to ask the fans of Rangers was why they didn't do anything. Why there isn't a fuss kicked up every time the Ibrox disaster is mentioned about precisely who was responsible?

And to Celtic fans whether we would have been the same at that time? I know there was a cultural shift at the time of Celts for Change, at least it felt that there was. But before that what would we have done?

I did not raise it on the Sevco board for the specific reason that it looks like a very poor taste post but if there are Sevco fans looking in, i am being earnest and I welcome an earnest response.

I think the main problem here is that you're investing in the hope that people posting on here have a semblance of rationality about them.

Especially the likes of Rocket. We're better off laughing ****e like he posts off as what they say about Celtic really doesn't matter.

The Newco board isn't really about football anymore. It has less and less about football on it. I mean, today was a classic example where they were playing their first ever league game away at Peterhead; was there a matchday thread for all the Newco fans to discuss the game, the ref, the highs, the lows? Of course not.

The Newco board has been turned into a cesspool by Rocket, which is a shame for the decent people who post/ posted on there. But then Rocket does represent a vocal section of Rangers & Newco's support where football is secondary to identifying with a culture and hatred of others. He is more to be pitied than anything and it's best to ignore him.

As far as the Ibrox disaster is concerned, I didn't know that, but the response from Rangers and it's fans is hardly surprising. As we have seen in recent months, it doesn't matter how much carnage that they cause, it is always someone else's fault.

I wonder if Sally McMoist has demanded to know the names of the people responsible for the deaths of 66 people at the club he professes to love.

Every thread Rocket has posted on the Sevco board has been copied verbatim from Follow Follow.

I'll be honest, I was 11 at the time of the Ibrox disaster and although I don't recall the details it is still there in the memory banks such a sad event was it.

I don't know the details of any alleged wrongdoing on Rangers part and to be honest this is the first time I have heard of the results of the inquiry and I don't see their relevance in this day and age, especially when the people who had fingers pointed at them are probably long since deceased.

I have mentioned the disaster before in the context of what Jock Stein allegedly knew, but not as a higher (or lower, depending upon one's point of view) level of Point Scoring, simply to make the point that everyone has a conspiracy theory which they are of course feee to espouse, but we cannot be selective in what topics we want to discuss. Either some subjects are off limits or none are.

Does that mean I want to talk about the Ibrox disaster and if someone might have been responsible? Not really, i'd rather discuss paint drying, and the same goes for the events at Celtic boys club.

However, I do applaud you for having the balls to raise the topic but same as Venom, I am doubtful whether such topics can be debated in a reasonable manner.

Maybe he is entirely rational but abandons it just to have a go at Timmy?

The whole "J'accuse" mentality, however daft is done in the hope that **** sticks whether that **** is within the realms of taste, decency or rationality is a factor of little consequence.....just as long as some of that **** sticks.

That is only one part of it though.

If I say what the findings were It looks more and more like i am point scoring and If I don't it looks like I am making it up.
But just to clarify the results of the investigation were not released but QC Irvine Smith who presided over the Dougan case referenced it in his autobiography. He was unequivocal in his condemnation of the club heirarchy; "The said accident was due to the negligence of the defenders". As the results were not released, the wider public would not have known of the intricacies of the case at the time but they would have known that Rangers agreed to settle. This in itself is an indication of how the case went.

I am at pains to say I am only citing it as a barometer of fans reactions to things that happen and not to continue to pile on misery. I don't think I have the capacity to be more sensitive about it but it is out there now.

I was genuinely baffled by it. What was the reaction he hoped to illicit?

You've picked me up wrong, i'm not accusing you of point scoring at all. Your post is no different to what I said the other day.

I can see that you think there is a great deal of hypocrisy in people who take offence to any mention of the Ibrox Disaster, (no matter the context) but think they are doing a public service by blaming Celtic for events years ago.

Accusing Rangers officials of being in some way responsible for the deaths is no better and no worse than people saying Jock Stein protected a Pederast.

Both topics are equally repulsive to me on a personal level. That's not to say I don't appreciate the chance to discuss the consequences of such posts, because threads on BJK and The Ibrox Disaster are always likely to be fiery at least and poisonous and hateful at worst.

If we can keep this sensible and on track then it may be a worthwhile exercise.

Just stay away from the smelly bastards.

They had many years to throw this type of abuse at us yet they were more interested in gloating over title and Old Firm wins. Now they are in the gutter they are trying to throw muck - as it's all they have left to throw.

Rocket is an arsewipe who thinks that posting this stuff is in some way getting it up the Taigs. We all act the dick at times but there must be something wrong with him as he posts at least one thread a day regarding child abuse that happened decades ago. He is also like Medro in the way he just repeats the same thing in a thread regardless of the replies he gets. I don't know how they stick to it, must be empty heads.

No, I did get you I just wanted to reiterate that I wasn't. it is hard to do it without offending someone. i got exactly what you were doing when you mentioned it the other day as well<ok>

Yep, these things have become weapons and it is hard to talk about them without using them as such.

edit: without appearing as though they are being used as such.

Re rhocket, from what Venom says, he lives and breathes rangers, can almost in some way understand his upset and frustration about all that's happened to him, but he's aiming his anger at the wrong people.

He doesn't understand though. It's all the ****ing taigue's faults.

And I concede I have been the dick to respond. Much more so in GC. I did the pointless point scoring thread as a homage. Some folk have taken it seriously.

I am genuinely interested in why they don't react differently to the Ibrox disaster but it is so hard to ask without it sounding like an accusation.

    PS. Some crowd at Pittodrie.

How many turned up at Aberdeen? Just back from the Reds game, 2-1 93rd minute penalty. Glad the season's started.
