Dont know if this has been discussed already but do you think villas-boas is correct in making Modric train on his own? If he does not move this summer will this cause animosity with Modric and therefore within the squad.? Also if he stays does it mean AVB won't play him.? It's like sending him to the naughty corner. It always strikes me that he is a popular player with the rest of the team regardless of his desire to leave and he played well last season after another summer of speculation but redknapp kept him within the team. Is this AVB doing what he did at Chelsea and creating factions?
personally i would say no he is not right to be doing this. for a start Modric is a key player to Spurs, so if he doesn't go he is needed in the team and after being alienated by his manager will he give a toss about giving his all for the club or manager? and for me he wont, footballers like to sulk now days about the slightest thing and AVB has given him a good reason to. Redknapp certainly handled the Modric situation better than AVB is doing. i heard Demspey was training with the youth setup at Fulham as well as he wants away, any truth in this?
Only time will tell if it is a good decision; no doubt its a brave move for a manager who will be scrutinised heavily after his time at Chelsea! I always support any action that takes away the power inequality that the players have, so for me its spot on! You cannot build a good team spirit by having players who are desperate to leave in the ranks, particulalrly at the start of a new regime. All will depend on IF they can sell him and get the price they want?
I agree with you mostly but the question is IF he leaves. If he doesn't can spurs afford to leave him out of the team.i don't think they can and said above will he give a toss about playing for AVB. Redknapp Definately handled it better by maintaining he was spurs player until he heard different. This does smack of "naughty boy" syndrome and leaves question marks over AVB man management skills.
Didn't he refuse to turn up for training and go on tour at the start of the summer? Actions have consequences. He's supposed to be a professional.
1. it worked for city. 2. it didn't work at all for everton (lescott) 3. in the end it could very well be disruptive anyway no matter how he's trying to isolate the guy... bale signed a new long deal but who lese do they have that might look and say.... hmmm not sure i want to sign up again or worse not sure i want to join cos that manager has done it at chelsea and now at spurs. man management is not this guys forte.
If I was Modric, I'd be asking my agent to sort out a loan move instead. I'd let my contract run out to **** Tottenham over. What they are doing is ridiculous, they made a gentlemen's agreement with Modric last summer that if he gave them one more season they would let him go. Now they are holding out for £40m (that is FORTY MILLION!!!) and making him train on his own because he isn't happy about Tottenham clearly preventing him from moving I know he signed contract but still, spurs are going back on their word.
Hope it disrupts them then. Nice to see his old club, negative football fc will continue the same style.
I said that last year but Modric was brilliant, especially once the window closed and he knew he wasn't going anywhere.
This is just my opinion, AVB is handling this correctly. He's stamping his authority down by making Modric train by himself. He's insisting that Spurs won't be bullied by any player or a buying club. They set a requested fee and if that fee is not met..the player goes nowhere. If it gets to the 1st of September and no sale, then the player will be left with his tail between his legs having to apologise to both the manager and his team-mates.
I think AVB is naive and very poor with player management. If you look back on the days of the high seas- which crews mutinied the most- the ones with stable-minded captains- or those with overly harsh captains? (the answer is- those with harsh captains- although too little discipline also led to mutinies... fair stable minded captains usually kept hold of their crews). AVB is a poor leader of men. Maybe he is a good coach... maybe he has genius tactics... I think he is much more suited to the role of assistant manager- he does nothing but piss his players off. Spurs could be in for a rocky season.
He does seem to be the complete opposite to Harry Redknapp, the cheeky chappie, the manager that players love to be managed by. He may be a vast improvement on Redknapp tactically, as tactics was never Redknapps strong point. However Villas Boas does seem to be a bit of a ''cold fish''. This was something that was directed negatively at Rafa Benitez who was tactically brilliant, albeit too tactical at times, but he too was regarded by senior players at Liverpool notably Steven Gerrard as being a ''cold fish'' Villas Boas downfall at Chelsea was down to alienating senior figures, Graeme Souness at Liverpool did something similar and got lambasted for it. When you've got egos and strong characters, you've got to make slight changes and not immediate wholesale changes which Souness did make and Villas Boas tried to make at Chelsea. Both have one thing in common..it ended in failure. Roberton Di Matteo on the otherhand went back to basics and reassured his big characters and it paid off. Do Spurs have similar big characters to Chelsea? Many may argue that they don't, but it does seem with Modric, they have at least one. Spurs possible only option may be to sell, however they have got the advantage of selling on their terms. However I do agree that should Modric stay and his nose being put out of joint that it may cause ructions at Spurs. Especially if he is selected ahead of players that worked hard in pre-season and didn't kick up a fuss. This could and this only could affect their top four bid.
Compared to the way BR has gained the respect of our players you can see the differences. Agger has got a new tattoo and Suarez signed a new contract. Things look good.
The one thing I've noticed about BR is that he's thorough. The uneducated individual would say they signed x player because they are a good young player. Thats just repetitive nonsense in all honesty. BR said he signed x player the two he signed because he felt both were ready for a big challenge. He knows the character of said two players having worked with them previously. The onus on those two players is to accept that challenge.
Mandy might argue with you on that one Tough one this one. I admire him for taking a stance against Modric although I'm not convinced it will do him any favours in the long run especially if they can't get a buyer at that crazy price. Players are quite happy to sign the long, big money contracts and yet still think its acceptable to just up and leave at will so its refreshing in a way to see a club take a stand. I guess the spuds problem is that unlike City with Tevez they can't afford to just let him rot for a year.
There has been discrepancies in what the media have said what Brendan Rodgers has said about Andy Carroll and what Brendan Rodgers has actually said about Andy Carroll. Brendan Rodgers has said that like all players Andy Carroll will have to work hard to get in the team. If anyone suggests there is ructions due to Andy Carroll being left out, Jordan Henderson amongst others was left out of the game on thursday. Most of what people read is mere media speculation.
There's no doubt Modric is the real deal,I like him as a player. A skillful, influential, creative midfielder. £40m is over the top though. I'd say around the £20m to £25m mark in the current market.
That would be the case if it were any club except Real Madrid, you know what English clubs are like with them with players with lengthy contracts? Add another £10-£15 million.
I agree but at the same time I think the fee is unrealistic. Add to that the agreement from the Spurs Chairman last summer and I can understand Modric's stance
