Official: We're pleased to announce that Robert Koren has just signed a two year extension to his contract with the Tigers, keeping the highly regarded midfielder at the KC Stadium until June 2014.
Lets just stop and remember what he does. He scores goals. He shoots on average 4 or 5 times a game. He doesnt assist much basically because everyone passes to him and we only have one forward on the pitch and our wingers and midfielders dont score much. If Koren is such a good player then why cant he play on the wing but drift inside now and again and have his 4 or 5 shots a game and score his goals. Add to that a few decent crosses/assists and we are then getting more out of him. Who wants to see a repeat of last seasons lack of goals, largely due to Koren being played at the expense of another forward add to that his inability to assist to a sufficient degreee to cancel out him stealing the midfields quota of shots/goals and depriving us of a forward. On face value a double figure goal scoring midfielder is very impressive. But dig deeper and look at the knock on effects his inclusion in that position has and its not so impressive and due to the lack of goals from all around him i think he is actually detrimental to the team in that position. Another forward played instead of him should get 6 or 7 goals and if the midfield plus wingers actually shot themselves instead of passing to Koren they would surely get more than 4 or 5 between them?
I think the club and new manager have shown what they think of Robbie. They know what he brings, and we saw it numerous times last year. This can ONLY be great news.
Utter nonsense. I can't be bothered to even explain how ridiculous this post is as I'll be wasting my time. I lost interest with "If Koren is such a good player then why can't he play on the wing...." I give up, I really do.
NFUNo1, where have you been? You've been missing for a bit, I was close to submitting a thread enquiring as to your safety. And well said, BTW.
My recent assignment was in Hungary. I lost contact for a while but I'm back. I cannot say anymore than that.
Good man. I may have to change identity for a while. It's what 'we' do when the heat is around the corner. I knew you'd understand.
Ok 'Gustav', the 'john law' got the 'typewriter' when the 'crew' sorted the 'schmuck' who made the 'squeal'. Kapiche!
I think chillo makes a reasonable point, but it falls down on the assumption that Koren can't play on the wing, which is nothing more than a recycled forum opinion and.not even true. I think the best way to use him is either as our playmaker in.midfield alongside McKenna or on the wing, because as chillo says, 2 strikers is the way we want to play. The thing that that pleases me most about this is that Koren, by committing to us for the next 3 years obviously believes in Bruce and the owners' ambition. Which after the events of this summer is a very good point.
