Has anyone thought that the £15mil we get for Joe will cover the cost of expanding the stadium.

I dont think we need to replace him (or at least spend big on a replacement) after watching the Blackpool game as Britts, Michu and De Guzman played really well in midfield and will only improve as they get more game time working together.

On top of that we have only spent £4mil on players so far.

Now assuming we had £10mil to spend prior to Rogers leaving (£6.8mil for Siggy plus say £3mil for a couple of others) then that leaves us with £6mil. Add in the £7mil we got for Rogers and the backroom staff and we still have £13mil to spend this season.

Therefore no reason why we cant bank Joe's money and if we are still in the Prem next season use it to expand the stadium. If we do that then selling Joe will effectively give us an extra £3.5mil a year in income for as long as we stay in the Prem.

    Thoughts?

Certainly a thought. I like it...... Still not sure how big we should go with the stadium but it's obvious at this stage there is the demand for a bigger capacity. I read somewhere a few months ago about the possibility of a return to terraced areas ? If that was possible - even in one section - it would allow a small increase in capacity. I have a bit of knowledge in calculating capacities as I have done this for hundreds of pop/rock concerts and it can be worthwhile.

I doubt it'll work that way but I understand your point, STID. Clubs like ours will forever be feeder clubs for the big boys in this League but HJ must be laughing all the way to the bank. £15M for Allen? We really are having a laugh. <laugh>

The priority has to be getting in quality replacements and I'm convinced that'll happen at low cost as Laudrup turns us into a much more continental team with imports on the cheap from La Liga.

But you're right. I'm sure that we won't have to borrow money for the expansion.

I dont want to expand the liberty......I want our own purpose built stadium of around 30k--35k with an indoor training pitch with retractable roof. and as we progress build a hotel next door......If we are going to spend millions then spend it on ourselves and go it alone.....another two or three seasons in the premiership and a dream could be a reality....

I agree, maybe this is Jazz's chance to get some game time in midfield?

    ------De Guzmann (Agustien)-------Britton (Jazz)-----------
    -----------------------Michu (Orlandi)-------------------------

I hope we loan him out if we're not intending on playing him.

TW I like the first choice midfield but I don't think the backups are anywhere near strong enough. We need at least 1 more good player in there (I don't think Jazz is up to it). Orlando has done well when he's played though, as has Kemi, but they're not "star" players.

Dai,there's probably been previous threads, which I missed, detailing the possible locations for a new build stadium. Where would it go?

that is something that will have to be worked out, I would not like it too far out of town though. we have seen how the olympics have made a fantastic sports arena out of waste ground so that a good starting point.....

I believe he is considered a defensive centre midfielder.

I don't believe he'll make it there for Swansea or Wales but would like to see him used there off the bench or in cup games/rotation so we can find out.

I know most like him at right-back but he's impressed me most at left-back....and that's where we need cover. He gave me kittens at right-back frankly.

...but overall my opinion is if we're not going to trust him now what's he doing here. I'm prepared to at least find out, I hope the coaches feel the same.

Agreed. He's played well in that position in the past. What you say would fit with Laudrup preferring versatile multi-positional players.

Well we found out one thing in the Olympics which is that Taylor can play at right back. If Rangel gets injured then Taylor can switch, leaving Jazz to fill in at left back where he seems not to be so vulnerable.
