Harry's got a new managerial job. He's got a new team on Sky's Fantasy Football! Wonder if he'll spend a shed load of money there before leaving to leave them bankrupt again <whistle>

super performance for a preseason game effectively. every player, even gerrard, showed precisely the game that's been talked about. super skills on show but the two touch passing was precise and effective all night. linesmen were awful, ref was good.... all in all every enjoyable game.... with a nice half time show from bolt!

re david pleat... UNBELIEVABLE how that fool survived that long doing punditry is beyond me what a statement.... an actual competition between lucas and spearing for a spot.... thats an shambles.

    Awesome.

That elven did great. Proves how quickly top players can adjust to knew systems. Gerrard, Suarez, Lucas, Skrtel, Agger, Johnon, Reina have all sloted right in. Shelvey looking good, and Downing to.

A couple of additions to bulk us out and we can be extra positive.

pleat would be relegated in fantasy football then... shelvey was very good, lucas was great if we put allen in for downing and push gerrard forward we just might have an 11 worth watching... little concerned about lack of bodies on the end of suarez's play but i'd say we'll do well if we press like that. the ball we took off them was good.

Tackling aside, I think Shelvey showed why he got a new contract. I predict he'll more than hold his own in the squad this season.

If we get Allen I honestly can't see Adam being here. Shame but he'll be happier in a less fluid team.

Wanted to see Carroll get a few minutes for the same reason Agger did. Newcastle will not buy him if he's euro cup tied.

If we do sign Joe Allen, then Charlie Adams Liverpool future is all but over. Joe Allen can fit into the fluid system, Adam can't. Its just the way it is. However a question mark must hang over Jay Spearing too, bundles of effort, but like Adam, he can't play in that fluid system. I still think we should go after Gaston Ramirez.

You'd rather have Gerrard playing wide right instead of Downing? Gerrard was pretty much playing as a second striker to Gerrard anyway.

Surely a midfield 3 of Lucas, Allen & Gerrard with Downing/Suarez/Borini upfront would be much more dangerous?

I still think however we need someone like Gaston Ramirez, a real live-wire for the attacking right side.

Still got doubts about Downing...not really in terms of ability but rather fragility of confidence when he has a poor run. Would rather that midfield with Suarez/Borini and A N Other <ok>

I do like the idea of Gerrard playing behind Gerrard though <whistle> If only eh....<daydreams>

Oops. Least they'd be on the same wavelength!

I think Downing has all the potential to be a really good player for us. He like to run at players, can go down the line or cut in and seems to provide a decent partnership with Johnson. I don't think he's a flop, just had a poor season that's all.

Trouble is with Downing is he can't beat a player - hence why he always turns in and goes for the short pass. Like a centre midfielder stuck out on the wing.

We heard about his crossing and what not which didn't come to much last season - and let face it, isn't part of Rodgers style.

But I think it would be harsh to ditch him and this stage. He's at least and option for us.

i know the opposition was poor but he beat his man on numerous occasions today. Also Rodgers stated he likes the fact that he can cut it and offers that option (something he did in the first game and scored). He may not have the trickery to beat a man but he does have pace, and the fact he can go either way puts doubt in the mind of the full back. Add the fact Johnson offers the overlap then the full back won't know to give wiht Johnson's run (leaving space to cut in) or go with the cut in (leaving space for Johnson out wide).
