http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/boss-excited-by-forward-line this article drops a few huge hints towards how rodgers thinks his team lines up. in particular what he says about forwards is going to shape how we fans should starting thinking about how players will be used. "Then I look at the potential of the front four in terms of Borini, Suarez, Gerrard and Downing and you've got pace, power, creativity and hunger, so I'm excited about going forward. Gerrard has been in everyone's midfield up til now in a 4-3-3 judging by all the teams I've seen written out over the summer but it appears Rodgers considers at some level that Gerrard is a forward. The reason i wanted to make some comment on this is that the discipline issue of playing deep in midfield and being available or passing is a big issue with gerrard as he thinks always to either release it quick or just run forward himself removing a shorter pass for the CBs. could Gerrard be the right side forward in our team? Could it be the first team would be gerrard squarez borini with downing coming on? Its also interesting note how he didn't mention carroll even though he was very complimentary on his press conference transfer update! If everyonis fit for the fist day fot he season i am going to be very interested to see the line up. Reina Johnson Skertl Agger Enrique Henderson Lucas Adam Gerrard Suarez Borini who drops out for allen? who is is being bought?
Quite few have been putting Gerrard in the RF position (I should probably add that I had him in the middle though) I think this shows why we are constantly linked with midfielders when the squad looks short further forward too Reina Johnson - Skertl - Agger - Enrique Shelvey - Lucas - Allen Gerrard - Borini - Suarez or, maybe it will be more along the 4231 lines (can still be seen as a 433 though) Reina Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique Lucas - Allen Suarez - Gerrard - Downing Borini Possibly Carroll instead of Downing with Borini moving to the left?
i think theres potential but handerosn is really forgotten and will be a big part. his engine will be crucial if he can get the way rodgers wants him to play.
What about a 4 2 4 fluid enough to work with his style... Sg and sd as the wide forwards. Allen and Lucas in the middle. Sg is familiar playing in an advanced wing position under rafa.
My lineup with the players we are most likely to sign: --------------------Reina----------------------- -------------Agger-------Skrtel---------------- Johnson---------------------------Enrique--- -------------------Lucas------------------------- -------Gerrard------------Allen---------------- Ramirez-----------Borini------------Suarez
I expect Gerrard to play in midfield. But he will be the one breaking out into the space behind the striker, creating a similar shape to what we had under Benitez with Gerrard, Torres, Kuyt and Riera. Alternatively Gerrard could operate in a false 9 role.
I reckon we will mainly play the 4231 I highlight above (not always same players or system though), Gerrard in the hole with Lucas and Allen in the middle.
He might not have eaten since breakfast...which explains hunger. But the other 3..... please log in to view this image
Can't see the pic, whats going on there Or is the failure to post the picture a reflection of Downing's failure on the pitch? If so, I like it Downing must have some dirt on Rodgers, its the only explanation.
As Downing crept silently into the bathroom...... "eeeerrrmmmm I was here first!" Screeched Carragher.
Jesus. Take us back to the glory days where David Ngog was our top scorer after smashing the early Europa league stage against European giants Rabotnicki
