http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/socce...aniel-agger-just-got-ynwa-042157548--sow.html Hopefully City will think that we value him too high and go sniffing elsewhere!
BR take note.....Players with the kind of loyalty when super wage givers such as city come along are not easy to find.....Credit to you Daniel Agger!
If the owners want to sell a player who the manager or the player himself doesn't want to leave then that will be the turning point for me.
Of course every player has their price but I believe BR when he say's there is money available. (We know it's not a bottomless pit). Agger does not want to go and BR does not want him to go. There is no sense in breaking up an established centre back pairing with years ahead of them to attempt to strengthen in other area's. With the possible exception of the LB spot our defence is solid, and I can't see them starting to tinker with that.
Pretty much agree with everyone else - it would be silly to get rid of him. It could trigger another domino effect - first it was Alonso, Arbeloa, then Mascherano and Torres. If we let Agger go, then maybe Skrtel and Reina could follow ...
I couldn't say Rodgers doesn't want him to go. He wants a big price. He wants to buy players. He has no money to do so. We're scrambling around for loan deals like we're Utd refusing to pay more than minimum wage. Hoo bloody rah.
I like the transfer policy so far, we seem to putting out the message that we will not pay over the odds for a player. I say so far as we need to complete the Allen transfer and maybe bring in another player so lets wait and see before I carve that in stone. As far as Agger goes all I read into his statement was that he really rates Agger and wants him to stay but as with every player they have a price. I don't think he's going anywhere and I love the tatoo.
I don't like the policy of having to sell one of our best players just to get others in. Fair enough with Andy Carroll or players who we can improve on even if it is taking a loss on them.
here's a couple of countervailing points to think about 1. Man city totally disrupted everton's start to a season by bidding lo for lescott and moyes totally took his eye of the ball fighting to keep him when he wanted to go. If agger wants to go we need to get him gone and replaced and 22mil would do that. 2. Agger is injury prone and could drop out after 5 matches for us anyway. 3. Agger is the best ball playing centre half in the prem now and is also the best attacker of a ball in the air we have. 4. We only have skertl and carragher and have not seen coates at all under rodgers yet. we'd be awfully light in this area IMO. My opinion on Rodgers talking like he did is that he's set a price for agger and is happy to let him go, public displays of affection for the player and saying he doesn't want to go is merely window dressing. He's putting it up to city to come out of the shadows and stop courting the player and start bidding properly which is fair enough.... I think if he wanted him to stay he'd have kept quiet on it but i think there's no deal on the table and he wants one on the table so he can get moving on a replacement before its aug 31. Aug 9 means its just 3 weeks and one day to go to do all our business. the sooner deals are done the better as rodger shas said but the reality is he's only doing deals after selling.
We're not rolling in it but have money to go after targets while refusing to pay over the odds. Think this has been played out so far to a certain extent. While Agger is one of our most valued players IF someone offers silly money that could pay for a replacement (as we don't have a ready made one) and add to the funds to get other targets then it has to be considered. What I notice here is that everyone is saying exactly the same thing but the slant or tone it's presented in is based on two beliefs: Whether or not the supporter in question believes in BR's ability to be a success with existing squad & in identifying and completing transfer deals. I haven't seen any reason to doubt him...so far. Whether or not the supporter in question believes the owners are willing to back up the manager in paying for his targets. Whether you believe BR can point & shoot so to speak in the transfer market going purely on HIS valuation of players & the owners will write the cheque. Now on this 2nd point we know from a number of comments that BR & the owners have stated there is money but since we aren't going for the City/Chelsea targets we know not huge amounts. you can also add in there consideration of wages & let's face it target players expectations of what they think they can do with us (compared to elsewhere) a club that's sunk down the table with a manager untested at the sharp end of the league. I believe The owners have supplied a small pot of cash for varying reasons; FFP, fingers burned last year (results vs acquisitions wise) even reluctance to spend risk their own cash in current environment etc. I think all those people that think these owners should be putting hundreds of millions of their own money into the transfer market will never be satisfied with transfer periods under them so I'd start taking anti depressants if I was you. I think they've made clear they aren't going to ever act like a Russian or Saudi tycoon/prince. The Manager? I believe he has a list of targets that to anyone that thinks merely competing for 4/5th is not acceptable THIS year are going to be disappointed. I believe he will be allowed to use his own judgement within the confines of the pot, to value the worth of targets vs price asked & value of players to be sold vs value to remaining on the squad. I haven't seen a season under him yet so can not say he's got the balance wrong yet. And for the record maybe I'm a cynic or realist but I never thought these owners would or even should pump million of their own cash into the club after buying us/clearing debt. I was unhappy at their naive season targets last year but it seems they with more knowledge of the arena they have entered have revised those, at least in timing.again I'm happy to wait the 5-10 years to see if they get it right because a) there's no other choice unless you have a spare half a billion and b) I like the idea of working for success rather than just buying it. I know others disagree so fair do's
very sensible post and i agree right up to the point where you say rodgers targets will disappoint us if we are thinking they are for more than getting us up to 4th. i think if we spend 15mil on allen, just like 20mil on hendo they must be at least good enough to be part of any title challenging team we may or may not put together... loans or frees i could accept it buy big moeny players should be good enough to play at the top no?
I don't know if this is true or not but apparently Agger has Y.N.W.A tattooed on his knuckles http://www.kopsource.com/daniel-agger-gets-ynwa-tattoo/ What fan of any other team would want to see that? It looks as if he wants to stay, and regardless of what sum we'll get for him I'd rather us keep our best players
This could well be right. I think it depends on what you think LFC can get & for what price in conjunction with how much you trust BR. So: to some of us we think there's a market out there for better players in the 10-12 range than the ones we seem to be buying at 15-20. If you believe that then it comes down to judging BR's selections based on that scale. If he pays 15-20 he better be going for 1/2nd. But yet you'll have others criticise him for stepping back on a targeted player when the price hits that mark, accusing the owners of not stumping up the necessary cash to get the first choice players. Obviously (I was pro KD) if in hindsight you had 100m to buy(not a net/gross Argument here and you buy 4 players drop further down the table when your owners (realistically or not) expect 4th while a team spends much less on 4 players & finishes higher then you're in trouble. I think we are shackled for a few years with our transfers being judged on the amounts we spent for individual players vs lack of immediate performance last year. We flinch at 15-20 (I know I do) especially if being told there's a limited pot because it becomes a bigger gamble for the manager & we are raw from the repurcussions of it going wrong. Could go right this year though....
