It's because his being linked to Liverpool. Laudrup said if Jordan Henderson is worth 17 million then Joe Allens worth at least a few more, basically his firing a warning shot at Liverpool to say we know you have cash if you want him it will cost you.

He's not, it's those ignorant Scousers bidding don't forget. You would have thought they would have learnt their lesson by now. £35M for Andy Carroll, £20M for Henderson, circa £20M for Downing with add-ons <doh>

Let's all laugh at Looserpool <laugh>

Apparently, and a Swan will be along soon to confirm this, he had a clause in his contract whereby he would not be sold unless a minimum bid of £15m was offered.

The Swans will be along soon and give us an update etc <ok>

Any player is worth what some mug will pay for them. Joe Allen is not "worth" £15m to a sensible club who are not desparate (please note previous comments on this thread regarding Andy Carroll) however if you have the cash and are desparate enough who knows what he or any other player is worth? Given Liverpoll's recent forays in the transfer market it is worth slipping a crazy price tag on a decent but not world-beating player just to see if they bite is worth a go.

A players value depends on how much the buying club want to pay and how much the selling club wish to retain him.

In today's Market 15m seems reasonable to me when you look at other British fees.

How is Fletcher from Wolves worth £12m is more of a pressing question, in my opinion.

Well yes, I agree with that. I would have liked to see him come to CR but not for that more than princely sum!

To every club their own player is worth so much more than to the buying team. For example, i bet that even with 1 year left on his contract, you guys would value grant holt for around about 8m yes? Whereas to another club that would seem ludicrous.
In our situation however Liverpool seem to have got a little muddled up along the way and are valuing players at what a selling club would! <laugh>
Allen is no world beater by any means, however he is only 22, is showing remarkable progress over the years, is a very intelligent and composed footballer and also a full international (albeit for a relatively lowly ranked Wales team).
On the normal market we would have valued him at around 12m I'd say. But everyone in Swansea, including the manager now aswell is using their recent signings as a base to value our own players. If Henderson is worth 18m, Allen is worth over 20m. Simple. But due to a release clause in his contract he can go for 15m.
Liverpool will be getting a tidy player who could and probably will develop into an exceptional midfielder, we are pocketing a lovely 15 million (not to mention the 7 they already gave us for our manager <yikes> )

I'm inclined to think he's worth 15 million to Liverpool, he wants someone to build his team around, he's young, he knows how to play, and he knows Rogers. He's better than Downing, Henderson (full stop) and Gerrard when it comes to keeping the ball. I think Rogers may look to get rid of Gerrard unless hes prepared to be the water carrier for the others because he's just not his type of player.

I don't like Liverpool but I really hope Rogers does well because he deserves it for his forward thinking which I really admire.

If it comes off he could be a player to build Liverpool around for the next 10 years. It's a big ask though.

He is young and is probably worth around £10m. But he has a release clause of £15m to top 6 clubs (including Liverpool) So its easier for Liverpool to pay that rather than risk losing out on him because they took too long to get a deal done. Will be a great signing for them if he doesnt let Liverpool syndrome get to him.

Can you explain to me why Rogers would want to get rid of Gerrard who is arguably one of the best passers of the ball in England? What sets Gerrard apart is his ability to ping a ball 50 or 60 yards to feet as well as the tippy tappy kind of play we are used to seeing Roger's teams playing, plus he has a hell of an engine on him. Age, and now injuries, are the only factors holding Gerrard back but Scholes and Giggs seem to be doing alright at the moment so if he can keep fit he can more than do a decent job!

Gerrard can't play a short passing game, Scholes and Giggs could. Gerrard has got an engine on him, thats why he should be the water carrier. Gerrard can play a long ball, but I don't see Rogers wanting to utilise it, he's got principles.
