On a positive note...I will be happy with Joe Allen, £15m is a lot and would have preferred to wait one year and pay less. On a side note, his sister isn't that fit so she might be quite easy. If I can get in there I might be able to get a season ticket out of her.
Sigh, can't say I'm excited in the slightest, don't really want him tbh. Feel for Shelvey who just won't feature much or at all now, when he should be starting. Henderson will suddenly have a much smaller role compared to last season. The likes of Cleverly at the scum will still be wrongly idolized as the future of English football, when Shelvey is already miles ahead of him. At least Allen shouldn't have a huge wage, other than his ridiculous transfer fee.
Ignoring his relatively short experience of PL football- the other thing unknown about Allen is how he will deal with the pressure of a £15m price tag, which will come from media and fans. It's not the best way to develop youth, in some cases overpaying might spur them on - but in others it can have a negative mental effect. If it does go through I hope it works out for him though.
I think Jonjo will be Gerrard's natural replacement when he isn't playing and when he subbed off. I think this is the best thing for him this season as well to be honest, it is too early for him to be starting every game for us. Think Henderson and Allen battling it out for a starting place can do no harm whatsoever
Has anyone seen Joe Allen's ability to play long balls? I just read a stat that says only Modric completed more accurate long balls than Allen - which I found quite surprising as I thought he only played short snappy passes? Could he be a more direct replacement for Alonso? ...
Haha. Just to put it to bed - Allen played 2177 passes last season of which 522 were made backwards (24%).
give it a rest, you know as well as I do stats by themselves are ****. Downing had the best crosses in the league the season before last, does that make him the best crosser in the league? CLearly not because he's ****e
Alright was a cheap shot, but I simply don't agree with the whole 'it's only sideways and backwards' thing. As jkielq said I would rather that than pass it to the opposition.
Stats by themselves are indeed useless, however someone has just also added how many of the passes go backwards. Rather than just condemning statistics, why not come up with a valid argument...?
Lots of twitter comments from the "3rd type of fan" {Rodgers' Law of football supporters} all a bit miffed at spending £15M on the lad. It appears everyone and his dog have a better use for the money than Allen.
