Where does the club stand with the release clause though? Surely it's out of Huw's hands now and down to whatever Joe wants?
Probably always was, SA9. I wonder what the media will make of their darling wunderkind Rodgers reneging on his agreement? Probably not even get a mention.
SA9, I have no idea what the legalities are but we al know HJ. It could be that the Spurs offer could be something like them valuing Joe at £17M and Caulker at £5M hence the £12M cash difference. That way Huw simply says to Liverpool that he's accepted a higher offer from Spurs for Joe, I don't see anything wrong with that, but as I said I'm guessing
I wonder what the agreement actually was. You'd expect Huw to be a bit more outspoken if he didn't expect this. Maybe it was a case that Joe was always an exception to the rule knowing what rogers was prepared to (and had to) pay for him
But surely the release clause is for the player's benefit. Once it's triggered it's down to what he wants. If spurs offer 30 million it won't matter unless it's what the player wants because Liverpool have already stepped forward to buy him out of his Swansea contract so it effectively doesn't exist anymore. It's all up to little Joe then
Huw never gives a lot away (cue Dai), but if it was me I'd prefer £12M and Caulker rather than £15m. It's not just about money we have to have the right type of player for us too. Caulker as we all know fits right in and I think he's with more than £3M too
Liverpool fan just on talksport RE agger, was worried about how they're going to replace him and said "I can see rogers going back to Swansea again and turn us into Swansea reserves" they do catch on quick fair play
@Toela65 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19010887 I stand by what I wrote .... To make this statement Rogers is either full of **** or he truly believes thtat Liverpool are currently inferior to Swansea on the field and in their style of play. He's on a mission to make Liverpool play like us ... why do that if it wouldn't be an improvement. So again ... Why would Allen go from better football to inferior football ... Makes no sense to me. Rogers is not proven good enough yet to lick Shankly's boots .... so really what's the value.
that would really be taking the piss. I was just thinking, if rogers had his way he'd probably end up with half our play off winning side. If we still had that same side at Swansea with rogers still in charge and add half of the Liverpool team to it, could we challenge for the top four....? No, I don't think so either. So why would it be different at Liverpool?
or put another way, would it have been easier to make Swansea into a top four side with a bit of cash and the base already in place or take half the team to Liverpool and start from scratch there to get them into the top four?
If you take the full measure of Rogers' own words then taking us into the top 4 is an easier task than taking Liverpool. No turn around necessary, just keep moving up the curve.
Because he'd be more likely to win stuff at LFC and get European football? Are you honestly so blinkered as to not see why a player would make the step up from Swansea to Liverpool??
Really? you would put a half Liverpool half Swansea side up there with the big boys? Better than Spurs, Chelsea, Newcastle?
Not blinkered, nor delusional, nor living off our history. You seem think your **** doesnt stink. Last season you finished 2 points below Everyon, 20 odd below Arsenal, 37 below Man City. Liverpool are not poised to challenge for anything. If you can't refute Rogers' own words don't waste my time. Rogers is not just trying to build Liverpool into a top 4 team, he's attempting to transform, then build. Totally different project scope, risk, cost and time line. Nobody knows if he's actually got the tools for the job, because all he can demonstrate is what he achieved by building on our foundation, a thick file of paper that no football exec will understand and a line of blarney. Oh yes, and an obsession with past players. Maybe Rogers is the second coming .... Wanna bet on it .... Your club ownership, a bunch of baseball people, just did.
