United start trading on the TNYSE on friday according to The Wall Street Journal, i know it's not the kind of news Utd fans want to see mate.

But look on the bright side you can put your scarf on E-bay and make a 'small' fortune.

bloomberg said all the shares were sold apparently. Theres a link on the united board.

Also whether the float goes as planned we get the money anyway. Dont really know if thats the case but something about the type of float it is.

No, of course it doesn't Drogs. You go to play in the French league for the Kudos and prestige of playing in the sixth best league in Europe. The salary will have nothing to do with it.

Co-incidence then that all the players that turn us down this summer have done so in order to go to clubs known to pay significantly more than us? Im not at all saying thats the only reason a player would ever reject us, but its really not arrogance to come to the conclusion that money just might have been a factor.

I am prepared to agree with the OP to an extant. We have gone backwards slightly, but so have pretty much all of our rivals. Resulting in no real effect to results, but the big foreign teams lke Real and Barca and possibly more will now be more players "dream to play for"

    we havent got worse.

Other clubs have got better through various means.

Unless these clubs are saying they are not as good as we were in the 90's.

We are much more effective now than in the 90s but play in a much more competitive league.

Can you give us some a legitimate link to proove this please as the official club stance and SAF`s statement say`s he signed the exact same contract he was originally offered. I would be interested to see more than speculation that this is not the case.

I was meaning more since 2008 in terms of general squad quality of the premier league in general. With the 90s comparison is about players dreaming of playing for us, Which is where playing more "effectively" as opposed to with flair does not help. Although i stress that the impact of that is very minor compared to the impact of the City/Chelsea/PSG wages.

Ruff, I'm not saying it has 'nothing' to do with it. I mean I moved up here last year because of a better salary, does that make me a mercenary ****? Money definitely plays a factor in a players move in the modern game but it's not the sole reason most players move, if say Leicester made a £35m bid and offered Lucas 300k a week do you think he'd go? I don't.

If his agent was paid enough of course he would.

Deep down you know players choose City, Chelsea, PSG and co over other big/bigger clubs for one reason only. Financial.

What can chelsea, psg or city offer that United couldnt for example? We have better facilities, bigger and better stadiums, a wider appeal, a proven record of success.

There is nothing at all in footballing terms these clubs can honestly say convinces players to move to them.

You can believe thats not the case all you like but thats the reality.

Oh and every fan knows this ;)

You money clubs even try and out do each other, Pastore for example, Hazard another. Its hilarious how desperate to out do each other you are becoming with some insane fees and wages.

I think part of United's 'decline' in terms of spending is to do with the sheer bloody mindedness of Fergie. I think he feels able to compete as much on the basis of his managerial ability as the strength of his playing squad. It is a touch arrogant, but it's like he is saying "go on, spend £100m, I'm still good enough to get performances from this group to beat you"

If he's got that confidence in himself why spend £40m on a potential flop when he can try develop players. It would be the final glory for him, to win the league with a team that has been assembled relatively inexpensively (in the context of the last 4 years) against clubs spending big. Whether or not it's possible, I don't know.
