Taken from the BBC website - CH's reply to a question re adding new players. 'He is continuing to explore options for strengthening his squad, but hinted that increasing his attacking options was not a top priority. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19177202 As Supers said on another thread, it's more to do with 'lack of supply' and I'm hopeful of seeing a better game on Saturday with goals from both sides!!
Can't see it being down to 'lack of supply' when our midfield is one of the areas we're strong in, we can pass the ball about well and create opportunities with the exception of the Ajax game. I will however agree with buying a holding midfielder but they'd have to be mobile and able to cover ground. Purely for defensive reasons and adding a bit of strength to the centre of the park.
let me explain the 'lack of supply' comment as its been taken out of context! i'm not saying we don't have creative players or the potential to get decent service to the forwards, whoever they may be. i'm saying that until we get a holding man our more creative players have to drop deeper and defend, therefore nullifying their creativity. its basic stuff really but adding another centre forward would have no effect on this - what we NEED is that midfield enforcer so that we can let the creative players 'create'
hmm, is this a bit like Mancini saying "We're definitely not going to win the premier league" or "Van Persie definitely isn't signing"?
steven fletcher has handed in a transfer request in the last few moments. he's a player i like but not at £12m, wolves asking price! also might be a bit too similar to holty and morison but good player all the same - whoever he goes to will land themselves a decent striker.
Yeah I was mentioning him at the start of summer and think he's a really good player but 12m is too much. I would have expected him to move on for 7 odd mil but it's Wolves decision.
although i think fletcher is the better of the two, i'd prefer doyle from wolves. i think he's a bit different to what we've got and although he's not that potent i think he's a handful. doubt we can afford either of their wages though and if we can, someone would come in over the top i'm sure
Hughtons not about to turn around and say "Yeah we've got a defender and an attacker. We're signing them tomorrow, it a done deal and you should see what we're paying for them, can't believe the twats are letting them go that cheap! Gor!" Coy, like a carp.
For 7 plus mil for either of them I'd rather explore the overseas market. Let's find our own Papiss Cisse ;-)
I'm sure there will be some reasonably priced players on the market, sign from an English club and you can guarantee that 5-10 million extra will be slammed on their price tag.
