Hatem Ben Arfa claims to be 'very happy' at Newcastle United and believes the Magpies can challenge for the Premier League title in 2012/13. The France international is among those to have been linked with a summer exit at St James' Park. by @SkySportsChrisB 12:22 PM hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha I needed that laugh!
More likely to happen than you getting into Europe Suck on it! Besides, did he actually say "Yes Newcastle can win the title next season"? Maybe he just thinks we can be in the mix with the top teams, and maybe threaten for it a little? We were up there all last season and were close to 3rd place.
A challenge too far I think. Obviously the one wonder season syndrome is having an affect. Any chance he's been on the Gregg's pastie's?
Does he not know we weren't challenged last year and rode our luck all season? Someone should tell him it's only a matter of time before our bubble bursts.
Pretty sure he said this last season as well. The guys optimistic! But better than aiming for midtable i suppose.
Well we have no other choice, with our predicament just to aim mid-table. I'm sure the majority of our fan's realise that your lot will be crowned champion's of the premiership any time soon, before we even get a sniff at Europe.
If you look at the actual quotes, he says it more as a 'We can do better than last season? Why not challenge for Champions League or even the title? We've got good players and are full of confidence'... For the record, I think top 8 is a realistic aim for us, and another Top 5 means either displacing Tottenham or staying ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool - neither of which will be easy! Having said that, we're a tight group of players and we've got good youth coming through - Sammy Ameobi, Fergusson, Abeid, Tavernier, Vuckic, Amalifitano and Bigi all look great prospects! A reasonable finish and a decent cup run and I'll be more than happy!
What's the point of being in a league and not aiming for the top? Would you rather settle for your players wanting to be mid-table mediocrity or showing ambition and wanting to improve year on year?
What I want is to see action not words. All this does is create a nice juicy stick for you to be beaten with if it doesnt happen. Players should shut the **** up and get on with it on the pitch not the media - both sets of players from both clubs.
Don't think the squad is deep enough to sustain a top 3 challenge with the additional Europa games. Should be comfortably contending for another Europa League spot though. Unless and until we get some more goals in, we'll be an awkward, mid-table, side that no-one particularly fancies playing, but which doesn't frighten anyone, either.
I had heard there was a powerful new hallucinogenic going round in Newcastle.. And there's the proof..
Nothing wrong with ambition. Rather read comments like Ben arfas than comments like jose Enrique just before he left. Might be far fetched but so far, our squad has stayed together and he sounds happy. If he is happy then I am happy. Easily the most gifted footballer we have had at Newcastle for years.
I would like to see Sunderland and Newcastle battle it out for 3rd and 4th in the premier league, but without putting in about £100 m into our teams i cannot see that happening. Man c, Man u, Chelsea and Arsenal who have spent big won't be caught and the gap will be about 15 points between 4th and 5th, they are making the most now to make sure they do not do a Liverpool, will owners allow managers to 'take a chance' on spending £50 - £ 70m to make the champions league?, look at Rangers. The answer could be to scrap the Europa league and league cup, so the top 5 qualify for the champions league groups and the f a cup winners also get a slot ( or 6th placed team). Bring in a new competition for the none premier league teams with about £10 m for the winners, scrap the play offs and how about the british cup with top teams from Ireland, Scotland and Wales included?. Start the home international championships every 2 year (no world cup or nations cup years).
Think that word deluded sums this up but they are setting them selfs up for a big fall this is going in my saved post...good luck tho in trying
Well good luck getting through to him if/when we do fall, unless you see of us lads suggesting winning the league is within our grasp then it's just one man's opinion and not really much of anything to throw at us?
