Hurrah, I get to use the pool again tomorrow (no idea where the open water swimmers are training?, particularly after reading this Are they or aren't they?).

Nice to see plenty of Yorkshire folk in Hyde Park today supporting the Brownlee brothers.

I bet if we had a commonwealth games tomorrow they would win a hell of a lot of swimming golds, possibly enough to go above us. As you can see, they, Russia and Japan have all been medalling, just not winning.

They certainly would, but maybe not as many as last time out.

Are they doing enough to challenge USA, China and an improving Japan?

Might be interesting to see what happens with Germany as this is the first games in a very long time where they have not won a swimming medal of any colour.

Anyway the point I was trying to make is that we need to make sure that we continue to produce athletes in all disciplines that can continue to compete at the highest level for years to come.

Just got back from the Basketball Quarter Finals. No real interest in who won, but the venue, atmosphere and experience was great. The Australia v China match was entertaining. The USA one was a bit of a walkover.

Olympic Park itself is great to just soak up. We're off to the Paralympics too. Figured we'd like to see the athletics stadium. If you can I'd advise you to see if you can still get tickets.

A few tips : take empty water bottles and a packed lunch, otherwise expect fairly long queues and expensive food and drink (although I have heard that McDonalds is the same prices). There's good choice though.

Well I was swimming in the next lane to the Portuguese open water swimming squad this morning so I guess that answers my question.

I have really enjoyed the cycling coverage by the BBC, I think they have done a great job. I thought the commentary team of Hugh Porter and Chris Boardman have been fantastic.

Sophie Hitchon breaks the British record by throwing 71.98m in the hammer competition and Mo Farrah qualifies for the 5000m final

Its the only way to STOP TEAM GB and VP winning another Gold. <laugh> Mears gets it by default,, imo.

    A case of 6 and 2 three's surely ? ? :emoticon-0104-surpr

Well we have to look down with pity on the poor people from time to time.

Nope. They were taken by the frustrated and medal-less Somalians. :bandit:

Indeed its been great. Glad ive sky plussed it all and must now transfer it to disk for posterity. But i bet that an official DVD will be released once the dust has settled on the London 2012 Games.

Before the games started it was reported that team GB wanted at least 48 medals. We have 47 already in the bag and with a certain 5 more from the boxing GB will sail over 50 medals. Great job and Great entertainment. Shame the mens football team did not show the same heart and desire last saturday. imo

Indeed. By beating South Korea that would have given them a great chance of Bronze at least. Silver was always the best i expected from them though.

No real surprise though that Brazil play Mexico in the Final.

South Korea play Japan for the Bronze.

    The Cycling:

Did anyone clock the fact that, of all the sports, cycling is the only one that allows just one entrant per country?

Think about it........if there were more than one, we'd likely have had gold and silver in every event. The rest are scared of us walking away with all the honours, and it would appear that this limit was brought in to stop us.

Yep and it really pisses the French off too.

Brailsford told L'Equipe that the secret was the special 'round wheels' we are using.

If it's about recognising the best in the world - what's your explanation? Paranoia isn't a good enough reason, surely?

its really annoying ,take the mens 100m

there can be three Jamaicans and 3 Americans in the 100m final - and rightly so as they are probably amongst the 6 fastest men on the planet ,
but if the limit was similar to the cycling , it could easily be argued that Bolt would only be racing the 4th fastest man on the planet and THAT racer would probably get Silver ????? that wouldn't be right would it ?

Also its quite mean spirited that a few nations are casting doubt on the fairness of team GBs cycling performances ... whats wrong with gaining multiple fractions even if many are a placebo .
Shazza Reade has also been slighted as competitors are accusing her of receiving preferential treatment on the home track , bla bla blaaa

Hm...I hadn't realised that was the case in boxing........

....but that was what I was referring to (Jamaica & USA in the track).
