I read somewhere yesterday that Fletcher's goal per game ratio in the Premier league is actually better than Darren Bent's. Does anyone know if this true? If it welcome to Sunderland, Stephen.
I'm surprised as well but to be honest I'm not sure as I checked and he has 22 form 61 for Wolves with a few of those coming from the subs bench. However, it's a pleasant surprise. Gonna check Bent's record now.
That makes Bent's slightly better I think so don't know where they got that from unless Fletcher scored several goals as sub. I know that Ole gunner Solkksjaer is actually the top ever premier league striker goals per minutes on field and not Shearer so hoping its something like that really.
sorry but they are telling lies Bent 403 games 173 goals = 2.33 goals per game Fletcher 295 games 88 goals = 3.35 that is all games. pl is Bent 2001/02 Ipswich played 5 scored 1 2002/03 Ipswich Championship 2003/04 Ipswich Championship 2004/05 Ipswich Championship 2005/06 Charlton Played 36 scored 18 2006/07 Charlton played 32 scored 13 2007/08 Spurs Played 27 scored 6 2008/09 Spurs played 33 scored 12 2009/10 us played 38 scored 24 2010/11 us played 20 scored 8 2010/11 Villa played 16 scored 9 2011/12 Villa played 22 scored 9 229 games played 100 goals scored = 2.29 GPG Fletcher 2009/10 Burnley played 35 scored 8 2010/11 Wolves played 29 scored 10 2011/12 Wolves played 32 scored 12 Played 96 scored 30 = 3.2 GPG so definitely talking crap i`m afraid.
Yes Steve I just found that out for myself although my maths might be a bit dodgy but it definitely points to Bent having the better record.
So Bent is 2.41 games per goal & Fletcher is 2.77 games per goal. So if the above stats are correct, Bent has a better goals per games ratio.
Fletcher is more of a Kenwyn Jones replacement rather than a Bent replacement. To properly replace Bent, you would need to blow some serious wonga.
Fletcher has been playing for Burnley and Wolves so 1 in 2.77 is actually a very good record. The one simple thing he appears to do is actually get in the box. We actually delivered some decent balls into the box last season just there was no one there to finish the move off. Nowhere was this more obvious than the first half hour of the derby when I recall 3 balls flashing across the mags six yard box yet we didn't have a natural forward to finish them off
where is this 1 in 2.77 games coming from, 1 in 3.2 in the PL and 1 in 3.35 games all games he has played. So for wolves then, what about Burnley. you cant just pick his last 2 seasons lol
The home derby I mean the 0-1 where we actually played really well for the first 30 minutes but after failing to convert any chances the writing was on the wall.
Good point here. I'm a big Fletcher fan but he is not a Darren Bent by any stroke of the imagination. Darren Bent was and still is a massive pair of shoes for us to fill and Fletcher is only halfway there. If we were to add someone of say the lad Llorente's ability (will never happen btw) to that equation then I'd say Darren who? However, as QWOP says, for us to even begin to make that happen we'd be talking £25m fee and £100k per week starting point and he wouldnt wan to come here anyway.
It wouldn't have been Shearer anyway - Cisse has a better goals to minutes ratio. (not sure it beats Solskjaer but with 13 goals in 14 games, I wouldn't be surprised!) as for Fletcher, I think he's good, but not sure he'll be as good as Bent was for you. £12+ is a lot of money, although its more wisely spent on him than Connor Whickham who was and still is a massive gamble! And Cest...I think it all comes down to clever scouting and careful planning in the transfer market - for £11-13m (including minders fees and signing bonuses etc.) we brought in Cisse and Ba - that's 29 goals in a season a half between them. Also, I don't think either are on wages above £40-50k p/w. The players are out there, it just takes a good scout, a bit of luck and a clever negotiator!
Cisse didnt even beat Berbatov last season, never mind Solskjaer if he does indeed have the record. Berbatov = 73.1 minutes a goal last season Cisse = 85.6 minutes a goal http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thefootballtacticsblog/2012/05/you_will_probably_know_that.html personally i dont even now why he mentioned shearer he hates you, he just cant stop talking about you for some reason.
There is no doubt that both Ba and Cisse have been successful but its strange that Ba scored 16 up to Cisses arrival and then 1 in the next 18 games, whilst Cisses scores a hatful in his 14 games or so. Can they play together in the same team? Will Ba be happy to play 2nd fiddle and not as a striker? Its a problem I wish we had for sure. Who knows by August 31st we might have?
True, although Berbatov's minutes to games ratio is skewed a little by the number of starts he had (having said that, you can only score when you're on the pitch and he did so better than Cisse).
Aye, Cisse took the central spot in that system, and Ba got pushed out left, but Pardew has said he plans on giving Ba the central position "90% of the time" so I expect him to shine again - he's already scored 2 in pre-season, but both he and Cisse are currently fasting as part of Ramadan, so if they don't start amazingly, I won't be too worried. I think the two will be able to play together as, whenever Cisse was switched to the left, he tracked back well and actually put in some brilliant tackles (almost slotting in at LB when others were tiring). They seem to understand each other's movement so I don't think it should be a massive problem. Or least I hope not!
